OK my earlier threads are about a studio 1737, but after a necessary replacement (bad usb ports) the Dell company accidentally sent me a studio 1747 with i7 Q720 @1.6, and an ATI 4650 1gb. Of course I will never tell them about this, lets just hope it doesn't need repair or I'm in deep ...

So anyway is there any way to:
    A. Upgrade processor or graphic card sometime in the future.

    B. Overclock any part of the computer to a decent extent.

from what i have seen of 4650s they are mxm 2.1 II, but i would have thought maybe by now they would have gone to 3.0. either way, 3.0 it depends on whether it's a or b, b you could go 5*** route, if it's 2.1 II there are some GTX260s or GTX280s you can get.

CPU as far as i am aware you can go to i7 820QM or for megabucks you can get the i7 920XM. a lot of people i have seen say that it's not worth upgrading from i7 720qm purely because of cost against performance gain, it's not a great upgrade for the price of the cpu, but it's up to personal opinion.

    1. Processor can go to i7-820qm but not worth the money.

    2. You can OC the GPU but be careful.. don't burn it out... use ATI GPU tool and slowly raise clocks...

What exactly is wrong with your specs that were inferior to your previous setup? Seems it would be an upgrade in every way would it not?

GPU will most likely be non-replaceable, if Dell still uses their proprietary format connectors.

is the gpu welded on to the motherboard? cause if that's the case then replacing would be difficult... and expensive
but anyway thank you everyone who helped :)

And im right in assuming cpu's cant be overclocked in dell computers, right?

And one last thing... AMD clock tool cannot load kernel drive... what does that mean?

Not necessarily. You can download SetFSB, and find out which PLL you have, to overclock. There are some guides on th internet for how to find your PLL.

That means you have to try either GPU Tool, or MSI Afterburner instead. ;)
