Maybe see a list of scary games from this Youtube Video (NSFW), it makes me laugh - thanks DEagleson for sharing this! I don't know if its on Steam but you try looking at the game name is listed on top right if its available or not.

It's an old graphics engine, but the game really rocks!

The Suffering is a free download (well it was a few years ago, not really sure if it still is). It's not exactly "scary" but it's interesting and free! Well hopefully :p

There's the free penumbra/amnesia type game called "SCB." I believe it's still in beta, but a lot of people are playing it already. I've watched a some people on youtube playing it and it's definitely got that scary factor locked down.

    Give Metro 2033 a try.

It doesn't have things popping up once in a while but it creates a dark mood of loneliness through danger.

^Metro 2033 also a good game. Dead Space 2(3rdps) , FEAR 3(fps) , Resident Evil Operation Raccon City(3rdps). Dead Space 2 is the best so far , you can splash people/alien's brain off and chop em into pieces and blood splashing..lol.

F.e.a.r. 1! Best of the series IMO, and necessary if you want to know what's going on later.

Yeah, but those games (Fear series) hardly qualify as horror games at all.

Well, I found them more on the 'impression' side than scary. Certainly there are horror/scary themes but IMO those games do not qualify for a horror/scary category.

Dead space!! No matter what ppl say about it still makes me jump out of my skin and actually be scared!

But yeah the best horror ive ever played is easily Amnesia. That game is a masterpiece.

What till Dark Souls gets released on PC... not "scary" but every corner death lurks, heart races because you could die any second. Especially if it's your 50th time trying the same boss! :O
