All right, I just bought Sony VGN-FZ485U laptop, here are the specifications http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/sony-vaio-fz485u-b/4507-3121_7-32815487.html?tag=mncol;rnav

Will this laptop be able to run any of the top games( Fallout 3, Crysis, COD, Diablo 3)

BTW: I've used can you run it.com and it said that it will be able.

I just want a professional opinion before buying any of above games.

Also if anyone had this laptop or knows anything about it, pros and cons would be appretiated.

that system has a Nvidia 8400M GT... a low-end videocard.

So it can probably play those games listed... but at low settings and low resolution.

please refer to the GPU Guide to see the better videocards that are can game much better.

and please fill out the FAQ if you want better suggestions.

Agreed. That system is definitely not built for gaming. The processors ok in it, but that's one of the lowest end video cards nvidias still producing.

If you really want to play those games, they should run at lowest settings/resolution, but what's really the point of playing high tech games if you can't see any of the high speed stuff?

    Thx a lot guys.
Is there any way I can buy better video card and install it on this laptop?? And for how much approximately.

If I keep the video card, will the performance of games be be a lot worser? Are the graphics going look at least decent after reducing setting/resolution?

no you cannot upgrade the videocard in that (as well as 99% of other mainsteam) notebook

you should buy a notebook with a better videocard in the beginning.

The games you listed required quite powerful GPUs, you should look for 9600M GT and upward.

Oh the games are playable but like the others said...at low settings.

I have my 8400M GT overclocked to 600/730 and it still struggles on new games.

if you just bought your notebook and was hoping it would be only for gaming, i suggest you return it

Thx for all the replies. I got this laptop for a very cheap price($670) and I do not think I can afford a better one at present time.

PS: How much worser it is to play these games at low setting( can I still play and enjoy the game at low setting or is it just too horrible to play?

    Thx in advance

it might be a slideshow if the game is not optimized to fully utilize the low end videocard.

most games should be fine at low settings.

The chances are that you could have gotten a much better one for gaming if you filled out the what notebook faq. If you bought this with gaming in mind then in time you will end up buying a new more powerful one.

You could've gotten the MSI GT625 with a medium end Core 2 Duo and a Radeon 4670 for about $100 more.

Yeah I have an FZ and it is not designed to be a gaming notebook. Its basically slim/lightish entertainment notebook, for dvds, photo and video editing and on the the higher end models blu-ray playback. The original frame is quite old now, 2 years or so, although you have newer components.
