The game has fantastic fighting styles, the game is 3D, the game is Asian style, the game has been around for 3-4 years but the game has a cash shop.
Atlantica Online:
The game has a nice turn-based strategic fighting style, the game is 3D, the game is Asian style, the game has high ratings but the game has a cash shop.
MapleStory:
The game is only for players that like to play in 2D, the game is Asian style, the game has nice music and places(if you like 2D) but the game has a cash shop.
Guild Wars:
You should check this one out but I remember it has to be bought at first.
The Chronicles of Spellborn:
Check the game.
Silkroad Online:

Guild Wars 2 is to be announced release for 2010/2011. -
I'm not sure if this game qualifies but Tibia is a very funny game!
I used to play it a lot when I was younger. I probably played it for four years until I finally decided to stop playing it. If you're looking for a game with great graphics you should not play Tibia. Tibia is a 2D game with a "top view". It was one of the first MMORPG's ever and today it's a successful game with 40.000 players online.
The major issue with Tibia is the fact that most people cheat. I can easily say around 50 - 60% of the players use cheats. But I still enjoyed the game back in the good 'ol days. You get this feeling when you play this game, I don't know what it is but the atmosphere of the game is so nice. I can really recommend this game to you. It's free to play but there's an option to purchase a premium account which makes it more fun to play. -
There are still new players popping up in Guild Wars for you to be able to enjoy the game at this stage. Also, oldies tend to be helpful when they have nothing else to do, so you can still party with other players.
Try Dragonica as well. I think it's published under THQ*ICE in NA and they have a promo for it. ^^ -
Been hearing about this guild wars
Maybe I should check it out myself too
Anyways I've been playing Rappelz for the past few weeks and am enjoying it quite a lot. Only thing is that it's a point and click game, no movement using wasd keys -

Came here to post the info on DDO going free, only to be beaten to it...
This is more than made up for by my misreading your member name as "garygygax" for just a second, and thinking that's pretty appropriate.
RIP Gary, we game on, but we miss ya.... -
-
And I 3rd the DDO nomination, for above reasons. Look up Loreseekers guild on the Khyber server and their website @: loreseekers.guildportal.com
-
I would be interested in Cabal online... but it's for European only. ?
-
I'm going to be honest to you friend. All players will bow to the one true King....World of Warcraft.
lol anyways Guild wars 2 looks good for free so i'd wait for that. -

I just recently got into Guild Wars, and it seems like a pretty good game. It's a one time fee.
-
Game called Earth Eternal, it's in closed beta right now. Looks really nice and free.

Guild Wars is VERY good. I've been playing it for about two years now.
There's an all-in-one pack with all the expansions for sale now that costs about 40-50$, that's a HUGE game (I haven't finished it yet with my main character, let alone all the others).
Comparing GW with WoW (which a friend of mine plays avidly), the main advantages are:
- no monthly fees
- level cap that is easy to reach (after about two weeks of play you are as powerful as anyone else, and can easily enter PvP matches or high-level content which makes most of the game)
- related to the above, the only objective of grinding is to get items that are very good-looking -- they are not more powerful than the stuff you will have after one month of playing 1 or 2 hours a day
- also related to the above, you can stop playing for a few months and get back easily, you won't be underpowered related to the other players (I've done that twice already)
- usually the players are very mature compared to WoW
- cheaper than WoW as you only pay once to buy it
- in towns you can remove skill points you already used and completely re-develop your character from scratch, no more "oh crap I shouldn't have invested 20 points in the poop skill"
- you do not get the feeling that you are one of eleven million cows getting milked for money every month, because there are no monthly fees, you only pay once to get it and THERE ARE NO MONTHLY FEES!
If after this you still get WoW instead of GW, you deserve to be milked and I won't feel sorry for you. -
But WoW is actually good...
(lol) -
Personally im an Eve online player, get nowhere without heavy teamwork and tactics, but for a game with no fees, Guild Wars definately qualitifies. -
I briefly tried WoW and saw nothing spectacular vs. GW.
The GW PvP, on the other hand, seemed to me much more deep than WoW's. -
Is DDO compleltley free from now on? Or just this week??
how does that work... -
Another vote for DDO.
About a year ago I subscribed to this, when it was originally called DDO Stormreach. I didn't have the free time to warrant paying a £10 monthly fee, so I only played for a couple of months. This game is incredibly polished with very good graphics and combat. A nice touch was the built in voice comms. I have not played Wow so can't compare. FAQ; http://www.ddo.com/ddogameinfo/faq -

Dungeon seige is a good game.

Do you have any preferences other than a real time combat system?
Any theme you'd prefer?
You a fan of leveling/grinding?
You into PvP?
How "intensive"(time wise) of an MMO would you prefer?
Good mmorpgs (NO MONTHLY FEES)
