Ey guyz, I thought I'd share with you what I just discovered. I had real terrible ingame stuttering with games like Dark Messiah, Fable and Oblivion. It was as if the texture-loading slowed everything down extremely. After going through all the tweakguides I could find, numorous driver and so on - I decided to take a good look at Vista.

And what I discovered might be old news to a lot of you; it sure helped me.

When I start up a game with administrator privileges (go to properties of the .exe and check it), all stutters in Dark Messiah and Oblivion are gone - and a lot less apparent in Fable. I can run very high settings now with stable framerates (Dark Messiah 1440x900 all high 60+ fps, Oblivion Make it Pretty mod 30+ fps) without stuttering. After I turned on WinXP SP2 compatibility mode with Fable, it was even smoother. Same story with Quake 4. Compatibily mode wasn't enabled with Oblivion and Dark Messiah.

Ofcourse - this might work with other games as well.

Anyway - I don't now why the setting helped so much - just hope it can help you too! :)

Yeah run as Admin helps a TON.

Not only with running smooth but also with games running PERIOD
I recommend doing that on any game you install.
    And, really, most applications.

I haven't gotten much from turning on the XP Compatibility mode, though.

How many frames did it bump you?

Well - with Quake 4 it was just that much to make it go 60+ most of the time, instead of frequently dipping. Haven't run any actual benchmarks - but my eyes don't lie. Fable as well - it reduced tearing and small boost in fps.

When i tried it with Dark Messiah it didn't help at all. Don't know if it made it worse - but I didn't see any real difference.. but hey - that games runs very smooth as it is anywayz.

    Just give it a shot - can't hurt :)

Okay, this is probably a stupid question, because you guys obviously know what you're talking about, but by "Run as Administrator" thingy is grayed out. How do I fix this? I've heard about using the shortcut tabs, but I can't see how that affects anything...

By the way, I've managed to run Fable at 1920 x 1200 maxed out at completely smooth framerates, but that was before I went hotheaded and wiped my hard drive, haha.

Really all maxed out with Fable at 1920x1200?

Hmm. then I must be doin' something wrong. That game just won't run completely smooth. Even at 1440x900 without AA and AF it's not 60+ fps :(

About the administrator thingy - you shouldn't try to check this in game explorer. Just go to the gamefolder and rightclick directly on the .exe => properties. Then it shouln't be grayed out.

have you updated vista? have you checked for game patches? have you updated your drivers?

if you answered yes to all three questions, then I can help you no further :)

Hmmm this is interesting... I'll have to try it with Prostreet. I'm really close to getting nice smooth gameplay.
