Stupid question, but must be asked since I am just getting into Gothic 3 and really enjoying my experience while playing it.

What are the Pros/Cons of G3 and O?

    Obviously Oblivion is better, no?

    Why, why not?

Gothic 3 is the 3rd game in the free-form rpg series by a German game developer. The most noticible points of the game are the high-end graphics of models and textures, massive environments (between which there's no loading time!), and frankly well-developed AI.

To compare bluntly the game could be called a mix of the hack/slash gameplay of Diablo 2 (kill all you can kill) and the presentation of Crusaders of Might and Magic (third-person adventuring.

Oblivion is a hell of a lot better looking then Gothic 3, but Gothic has a much better story line and is more linear. Gothic is more realistic also.

True, there are a few flaws in the game, as mentioned in that link above, but overall I find Gothic 3 far more immersive and fun than oblivion. The loading times aren't nearly as bad for me as in that review; maybe 2 minutes to start up the game, and 45 seconds to re-load. Also, I think the fact that there are super-strong monsters, even near the start, and that you can't always judge how tough they are, is a great thing. It makes the game feel so much more real, and if you're good enough, you can actually have a tough challenge, you feel the adrenaline rush, and actual satisfaction after winning a good fight, or there might even a battle you'll have to avoid until later. The level-scaling bullspit in oblivion just makes it mindless and unfulfilling IMO.

view the reviews at ign.com and gamespot.com

Its got good graphics & sound track , but crappy everything else. Cut scenes are bad, character voices and repeated actions are "ridiculously uncharacteristic" and used too many times over. Gameplay also is just a lot of hack and slash no skill required :) , confusion also arises becausethe game is almost too non-linear.

He's talking about G3. I agree about the repeated voices and canned lines. Especially when you are in a fight you hear human enemies scream in unrealistic ways, repeating each of those moans and screams over and over until you have killed them. The voice acting is soo bad that another person in the room where I have been playing commented on the voice actors sounding as if they were in a porn flick, having rough sex. Women actors (female freed slave) are the worst, moaning when you slash them...climaxing when you kill them. Ugh!

But I really like the Gothic series.... I loved the storyline of Gothic 1, haven't had a chance to play Gothic II and Gothic III seems great. So the voices arent perfect... big deal. Not like it ruins the game to me.

Please!! Is this guy SERIOUS ? is that actually a PROBLEM? lol!

I played both enough to see how my laptop ran them.

I can just say right away that gothic 3 is a LOT like gothic 2. I mean as opposed to be amazed by what was different i was amazed by what was exactly the same. Same font used in the type same voice actors. Very little changed

Oblivian is just like morrowind but its grpahics are greatly improved and its combat is arcade.
So both games to me were just like their last chapters. Oblivian looks way cool but its boring. It also gave me higher fps than gothic 3.

    i trust ign and gamespot.

When a 'good series' is only given a score of 4.9 (poor) at IGN there is no way you can recommend this game guys.
with a reader average of barely passable (7.1) and a press review in the 50%'s theres no way.

and compared to game of the year oblivion:
    http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/698/698400p1.html

Theres just no way :) .
Heres my conclusion of oblivion. The game goes from ridiculously fun to ridiculously repetitive. Of course it takes around 50 hours for this to happen and those are 50 solid hours which you hardly get from any other RPG games (minus final fantasy / diablo). To emphasize this point i have bought knights of the nine but played 15 minutes of it and stopped because of this repetiveness.

    I started gothic and oblivian

but I finished dark messiah of might and magic.

Thats a way better game. And it looks awesome as well. Really the main part that looks better in oblivian is the detail on the monsters .... the enviornments look similar or even better in domm

Now it is even less of an rpg than gothic its not really in the same category. It is closest to the game thief and there is no real exploring mostly just taking out a level one at a time.

But its way cooler than those two games.

I'm also thinking of buying Dark Messiah. I was great fan of Severance, which was quite similar action/rpg game back in the old days. I also have Oblivion and I like it, but it certainly gets a bit boring in times. It's good to keep a long break from it occasionally. It feels fresh again when returning to it and continuing the adventure. Also choosing right mods right from the start affects a lot..

ya I saw oblivian as a job. Im going to get back to it someday but i always procrastinate because theres just nothing fun about it

Dark messiah of might and magic is a keep you up late sort of thing.

It is made by the same people who made a game called arx fatalis.
But like I said, the game its closest to is thief. Lots of hiding in corridors trying to take out the guards one at a time

    Gothic 3 = Buggy...

Not sure if there are any new patches though.
