I just want to know if running my gpu (ati 3650) overclocked to 770/600(600/500) is bad, considering if its about 30 mhz core higher itll start to throttle during gameplay because of high temps once about every 5 min/

This gpu doesent have a temp detector so idk the exact temps just like I said if its overclocked any higher than it currently is even like 20 mhz, the comp forces it to clock down after high action gameplay to lower the temp., so im just wondering if im damaging the gpu by being so close to that point

Sense I created a thread does anyone know of a way to detect the gpu heat on a 3650? No program ive ever used has been able to

Check your Nvidia Control Panel as well.
Make sure the 3D setting there, the Pre-Rendered Frames thingy, set it to 3.
I experienced downclock with this thing set to other numbers.
Try HWMonitor for checking GPU temperature as well as the other.
For purely GPU Temperature checking, GPU-Z will be your choice.
Google these software(free) around, you can get it.

Why on earth did you overclock without knowing the temperatures?

Wishing for a some crispy bbq GPU card? LOL.
Temperature is the killer for almost all electronic applications.
As for GPU, there is a sensor on Core Clock and it will show the temperature.
However, GPU lacks a sensor on Memory Clock, so we don't know how much Memory Clock has been heated up.

Relax, it was a rhetorical question. There are numerous reasons why someone would overclock without temperature feedback, and none of them are good.

So if you only overclock the Core, and not the memory, does the temp on the memory still increase?

    ^^ I wouldent think so

And I checked the temps with the core at 770 it gets to 100C, what type of max temp should I be going for?(I know 100 is to high)

    100C is very high indeed.
Some people said below 90C is fine.
Some people said below 80C is fine(I am one of them LOL).
So, if you mix them together, below 85C should be fine. XD
My GPU only heat-up to 75C with my moderate OC, 475/400/950 to 615/470/1415.

My 9600M GT heats up to 88-90C under heavy game load (MSI GX-620) at stock speeds. All vents are kept clean. The only thing I have not done is replace the thermal compound as I don't want to break the warranty sticker.

If you trust the info here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=263039 , the GPU enters the danger zone when it goes over 90C.

Notebook GPUs seem to have a much higher failure rate than CPUs, i have seen a lot of threads mourning their dead video cards due to OCing/overheating, i have yet to see a person fried his CPU. So be gentle with your GPUs :p

Well thanks to the hwmonitor I figured out apprently one of my vents were blocked or something cause when I cleaned it out, I overclocked my gpu to 810/603(default is 594/495) and the temp is at max 87C, also my 3d mark 06 score is 4100(default clocks its only 3300)-

I guess my last question is, the temps are ok now but is it bad to be overclocking it by 220 mhz?(37~%) I could go to 860's+ if temputure wasent an issue

btw thank you guys idk whad I do without you lol(propaly wouldent have a gpu anymore ;) )

oh and just to add i tested temps with fur mark with ultra burning mode + 8x M, and regular gaming/3d mark and such

Ya 100C is the max(it thottles when it reachs that) but like I said it doesent go above 87 now at even higher clocks

Different cards have different throttle temperature, eg: my 9800M gs throttles when it reaches 105C , while a GTX 260M throttles at 108C. You can read your throttle temp in your Vbios. My guess is higher end GPUs are designed to withstand higher temp.

Just to give you a bit of an idea, according to HWMonitor, my 3650 never gets above 63C.

How do you do O.C. in the first place? manual? In my case I use the ATI all in wonder software to automatically O.C. my video card in that case I am sure I'm not over doing it.
    Just a suggestion.
