    Hi I'm about to repaste my gpu and i've got everything ready but one question I've watched the m17x r3 repasting guide on youtube and the guy replaced the thermal pads is that necessary sorry I'm really new at this

    It's not a bad idea. Some people will re-use their thermal pads, but if you're at all in doubt it's best to plan on replacing them.

    No, as long as they're still intact you can just leave them. The memory modules aren't getting that hot at all. The most important thing is to properly apply the thermal paste on the die.

    I still use my stock pads on the VRAM modules (after repasting the die several times) and it works very well.
