I am using gpu z to check my gpu temp. My 8600m gt ddr2 idles at about 50c-55c. Gpu z reports that the clock speeds are at 475/400. My question is, is it normal for gpu z to show 3d performance clock speeds when at the desktop? I thought at the desktop the gpu would be at lower clocks.

Probably means powermizer isn't working properly

I believe the main "Graphics Card" tab of GPU-Z always shows full/3D speeds.

Look in the "Sensors" tab to see if it's downclocking.

GPUz isn't the most accurate program out there, i changed drivers on my 6800 go and it completely fails to read the chip now. It's still an nvidia driver, too.

I turned powermizer on and gpu z now reads 170 core 100 mem but i went to check rivatuner just to make sure and it reads 182.5 core and 799.20 mem. I am guessing rivatuner is bugged?

afaik, GPU-Z depends on the drivers too much :/
