Has anybody used this program? How accurate is it? I'm asking because it says I've only got Direct X 9.0C.....how is that possible?

alright because I compared the specs on my 9800 pro to my 8600 and it was quite alarming that it listed my 8600's memory bandwidth at only 12.8 GB/s and yet my 9800 Pro has 21.6 GB/s

but apparently its not accurate so nevermind me

The DDR2 8600M-GT only has 12.8GB/s of memory bandwith.

    Thats correct actually..
    9800pro has 256bit mem interface (at ~350Mhz,~22GB/s) where as 8600M ddr2 has 128bit at say 800Mhz yields ~12.8GB/s..

EDIT:someone beat me to it :p

Maybe its my drivers then, I'm just not that impressed with the 8600 GT over my 9800 Pro

I think it doesn't report GPU's under Vista correctly (But the 8600M GT and the 9800 Pro comparison IS correct, as pointed out by members above me).

It works fine for my 8600M GT under XP Pro :).

I've already posted a screen capture of my GPU under the "official" thread (as official as an unofficial thread can get, I guess).
    You're kidding me, right?

The 8600M GT is, by far and large, better than the 9800 Pro.

Not to mention it has a whole slew of video play-back capabilities that leaves the CPU generally idle even while playing HD content :).

It's good for watching a H.264 vid while trying to do some CPU intensive rendering in the background :D... Something which I do a lot of as I use 3D Applications quite often.

However, it's not just the extra added perks. It has more shading power, and generally more professing power, than the 9800 Pro.

Lastly... Memory Bandwidth doesn't make up for a lack of raw processing power. It simply doesn't.

I didn't mean to come out sounding rude or offended.

I just wanted to know why you don't particularly think the 8600M GT is better than the 9800Pro--admittedly, I don't have a 9800Pro to do a real-life game benchmark with... But I'd assume the 8600M GT would perform better than the 9800Pro as the 6600GT even performs better than the 9800Pro in most instances, and the 8600M GT definitely performs better than the 6600GT.

Well I was mostly basing my opinion on the games that I have been playing, not on any of the other features it may be good at. I use to play FEAR and Age of Empires 3 on my 9800 Pro and I didn't notice much of a difference when transitioning to the 8600 GT. Doom 3 runs flawlessly on the 8600, but it ran pretty darn well on the 9800 Pro. My 3dmark scores are a lot better, but I know they don't really matter anyway. I haven't been able to get far cry to run on my laptop so I don't know how much better that runs. HL2 runs a little smoother as long as I don't enable any anti aliasing. I guess I was expecting some super smooth gaming.

Well, the 8600 M GT is a mobile chipset after all.

As for HL2, I can run it at 1280 x 800 with all settings turned high, Trilinear AF and 0x AA at a rock solid 60FPS--I'm not sure what the 9800 Pro was capable of.

As for FEAR, at 1024x768, you can have pretty much all settings to Max with minimal frame-rate drops--was the 9800Pro capable of this? If it was... then I suppose the 8600M GT isn't all that much better, unfortunately :(.

That said, for Crysis, the 9800 is the bare minimum requirement, while the 8600M GT is actually able to play the Beta (unoptimized, might I add) at 1280 x 800 at Medium settings according to other members... That's pretty darn good if I do say so myself !

Just out of curiosity what resolution and 3d settings you run on FEAR with 9800 Pro selb7841?

GPU-Z 0.0.6 is kinda funky. I just moved up from 0.0.2 and the 0.6 shows memory bandwidth. funky!

I'm at 17.2GB/s on my Vostro 1500's 8600GT (slightly overclocked) according to gpu-z.

1024x768 most settings on medium and high.........I run the same thing on the 8600 and it runs about the same, which is smooth only when there isn't anything crazy going on.
