Well I thought I would release my tweaks for GTA IV, I have benchmarked and tested these a lot now. I have included an Nhancer SLI profile for SLI users, this tweak have mainly been to tweak for my XPS M1730 to run it smoothly. The GPU drivers I am using is 197.15 and for Win XP SP3.
However I thought I would share the tweak with you folks, those with higher end CPU´s and GPU´s can increase the detail levels, shadow density and so forth in the commandline.txt file. Just copy the contents directly into your GTA IV folder.
This is what I get according to the benchmark:
Statistics
Average FPS: 38.47
Duration: 37.45 sec
CPU Usage: 89%
System memory usage: 61%
Video memory usage: 96%
Graphics Settings
Video Mode: 1920 x 1200 (60 Hz)
Texture Quality: High
Texture Filter Quality: High
View Distance: 1
Detail Distance: 30
Hardware
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 3
Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX
Video Driver version: 197.15
Audio Adapter: SigmaTel Audio
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7700 @ 2.40GHz
So I hope this tweak can help more fellow notebook users out there.
Here is a video of how good it runs now on my XPS M1730 at 1920x1200. I recorded this video when it was raining too, which usually has a high hit on performance, but not with this tweak.

cool.
thanks
try this one
http://rapidshare.com/files/372125538/EE_GTAIV.rar -
I will give it a try
-
it says "The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable"
EDIT: had to register. i am going to try it out right now. -
lol, completely removing people and cars from the streets isn't really my ideea of performance...
anyway to get it back if i didn't do a backup? -
worked good for me. Had to edit the command line for my res. i still had a lot of people walking around the streets but I miss some of the parked cars. the shadows look really good also.
-
Yes I haven´t removed the people, however I have lowered the amount of peds in certain areas and some parked cars too if that is what you mean since these has a high hit on my Core2Duo 2.4GHz CPU. Those that have the X9000 could use the original popcycle.dat file.
However if you miss the people just replace the popcycle.dat with the original popcycle.dat file, that´s where the amount of peds and cars is.
I´ll see if I can lower the peds just by a small amount while still have good performance. Also looking in the popcycle.dat file there is some areas that have very low amount of peds. I have only changed the peds for the areas with high amount of people, like Star Junction for instance.
EDIT! Lvnatic, try this attached zip file and replace the current VisualSetting.dat file you have now the folder Common/Data. I think I know what you mean now, the peds lod data is what causes the peds to appear later than the original. Well one has to make sacrifices in order to optimize the game to run good.Attached Files:

thanks 10 char
-
I updated the tweak even more, the game is more smooth now. Try the new download, I replaced the old download link with the new one.
-
Works great. Thanks Magnus.
-
Great glad to hear, I am very happy with the tweak now.
-
I donwloaded and copy it on the game folder it but seems my GTA 4 wont open now
-
Patch 6 is out soon. Lets hope performance will be improved.
-
Which donwload link should i use, Magnus72's first or second for the tweak?
-
where can i download patch 6?
-
I found one who had linked the download to another download site instead. Use this one naticus:
http://files.uploadffs.com/a/f/c5c1f94e/GTAIVTweak.rar -
magnus you should make another tweak for the new patch if you can.
-
Yes I will look into that Erik, have to install it first and check first.
-
hey magnus,
I finally bought the game and applied your tweaks to my m1730
but i still find the game kinda choppy, i tried kinda everything to smooth it out (i even lowered the res to 1024*768 and put textures on low), but actually nothing makes much difference (maybe 5 frames in the bench)
i get around 38 fps @ 1920*1200 in the benchmark, but i found out whats the hog, actually GTA is pretty CPU intensive, both cores are at 100% while the GPU's are only around 70% (SLI load balance graph); so i guess my only option would be to find an x9000
thanks for the tweaks though -
Yes a better CPU would only benefit the game even more.
-
If you have installed v6 patch, which I assume that you have since you wrote you bought the game. Then you'll have to wait a little bit more to smooth gameplay. The last patch really cut down the FPS for most users.
-
In patch 6, enable clip capture, there is a bug where having it disabled can cause major fps drops in the EFLC DLC but it might also effect the original.
-
I have clip capture always on. But, now I can't even edit my videos my game crashes. And, the rimes of cars does not appear and tyres are not going round. Because of this, I can't finish my movie for YouTube
-
Tried that one, now I can't load up the game.
It starts under the Task Manager, but then stops a few seconds later.
Edit: Never mind, I can't load up the game in the first place. Trying to fix the problem now. -
I bought it on steam, so there is no way for me to play without the v6 patch applied
edit: i do have clip capture on -
Everyone who legally bought the game must have the updates applied.
Anyways, I hope Rockstar fix this soon. -
Oh boy! I was playing the Lost and damned and the graphic was so bad for me. It was choppy and somehow kinda watching a movie with bad signal (sorry, I don't remember the right word for it but I hope you get what I mean). So it prevented me from having the right visual when shooting.
Don't know if that's my laptop's problem or the game's. Mine is XPS 1730 with Core 2 duo 2.4, 4gb of ram, and 9800m gtx sli; and Vista 64 pretty much the same config with Magnus. -
I bought this game legally and am not using the latest update.
-
same here, same notebook (see sig)
-
You must to go online...
-
What you are seeing is the Noise filter. In game, go to Display and set Noise filter to off. Rockstar added it to make the Biker theme look more tough and gritty.
-
will give it a try but thanks, LaptopNut
-
that won't remove the choppieness though, just the grit
-
I never did any gta multiplayer, is it fun? how is it, is it like a deathmatch or what?
-
Dude, you must go online with GTA!
Check out my YouTube channel, you can get a idea how it is like.
Yeah, you can play, deathmatch, team deatchmatch, and other type of games. Just try it! It is fun, I never play Single Player on GTA... -
Yeah but I have modded files so I can't go online either way.
-
@LaptopNut: I cant find Noise Filter in EFLC either in Display or Graphic. Any suggestion!
-
so if I have modded cars i can not go online?
I luv modding GTA
forget goin online then if i can't mod cars and stuff -
The Noise filter option will only work if you first run the Lost and Damned game i.e load up a save or start, then go into display, scroll down to the 4th menu that says Noise Effect and make sure it says Off. It won't hurt to make sure you have already updated to the latest EFLC Retail Disk patch too.
-
If it is just custom car skins you can still go online but when you start messing with the handling it wont let you.
-
well, i cannot replace the blista for example with a ferrari and not mod the handling
-
nice tweak holy dude.
proud to download -
You can always go online, but you need a .asi mod. But, with this you'll be one of the cheaters.
Also, I have tried car mods, when you go online with it your game will randomly crash, and not enough with that you will also crash the server you're playing on. I don't know the reason for this, ah but I don't like "mods" anyways... -
I dont want to be cheating online
-
I agree that Mods in Multiplayer are no good because they can be used to cheat but how can anyone not like Mods overall?
I have Mods in GTA IV and EFLC Singleplayer that allow me to do random missions, call for backup, do Taxi missions, assassination, package delivery, rescue VIP, surveillance, play as the LCPD, enter cars as passengers as well as improve my graphics with an unexpected 10 fps boost in performance too. -
i've been modding gta since gta III, its mods that make the GTA series so popular in the first place me thinks
Anyway so far i haven't been modding GTA IV, so laptopnut can you reccomend me some good modding tools/mods (except for car mods, ill find those myself) maybe you can PM me a list or some links, thanks
