Rockstar has published a small 33MB patch for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV. The patch will be automatically offered for download via Games for Windows LIVE the next time you start the game (see, LIVE is good for something!). Rockstar Games Social Club application also auto-updates with the patch. No official patch notes so far, but Rockstar earlier listed the following items as things to be fixed in the patch.
* A fix to the crash after legal screen that some German customers were reporting.
* Numerous improvements to the video editor: Smarter naming of videos, improved rendering quality, better FX during replays.
* Fix to bowling while using certain sensitive mice.
* Fix for ATI 1900 shadows.
* Overall savings to memory.
* Graphic improvements to particle systems and mirrors.
* Multiplayer character settings are preserved.
* Support for DirectInput controllers. Note: The current hack way of supporting these controllers may not work with the improved functionality. So we recommend you remove the hack before upgrading to the patch.
Issues with power management software have also been fixed (slow speed, double speed issues). Even after the patch comes out setting power management software to maximum performance is recommended. Weve seen cases where power management software does not detect the game is running and puts the CPU in green mode.
Besides the patch weve also improved the way the Social Club handles data this should have greatly reduced or eliminated the MMA10 error. If you are still receiving this error after logging in and out of Social Club we would like to know as much info as you can about it.

Yay... Thanks for the heads up.
-
so anyone out there tried it ??.....did u saw performance boost...most important in terms of FPS....or they just patch it to be lot more slower then even before....!!
-
Tried it, but I have not noticed too much change. My biggest problem was the memory leak, which still occurs, but it just takes longer to occur. I admit that I'm right on the edge of being able to run it, but I'm still a bit dissappointed.

Maybe the next patch will work better?
-
Does it auto-patch through Steam?
-
So if I don`t have the 2Gb 4870X2 I`m no good, thanks R*
The memory leak and abnormal usage for crap quality image is ridiculous..
I mean, I played Crysis on very high configs and it ran absolutely beautiful and looked life-like.. -
-
installed it, but couldn't tell any difference. still runs like crap

Dude, I`m not panicing, I`m just really really pissed.
With my high end system, I get 10-15fps on med details, with Dox latest 180.84..
Unfreakingbelieveble..
NO DIFFERENCE between 1920x1200 and 960x600. Stupid console port... -
I've read that the auto patch through GFWL is not the same as what Rockstar announced. There is nothing on R*'s website about a patch being released. I did the auto patch this morning (Italy timezone) and have been playing the game throughout the day. I still get the textures problem due to the memory leakage, but it doesn't happen as often. I also think it is related to the temp. of my GPU althought this is only simple observation. It seem like every time my GPU gets past 68 degrees, things begin going wonky.
While initally, I was just as pissed as everybody else about this mess (I had to pay $60 through Steam due to import fees) I think once the game is optimized it will be pretty fun to play. I've enjoyed playing it today even though it isn't in the best shape. You can see my specs below. I don't have a monster of a machine, but it runs pretty well for me at 1024X768 with Medium texture and Medium render.
