Well folks, today was the day I did something I thought I would never do.... Purchase a Xbox 360 game..
Like many the release on Grand Theft Auto V only on Xbox 360/Ps3 consoles, has prompted many PC gamers such as myself to dust-off their old consoles....
Myself I had not played a xbox 360 game in well over a year, I actually had to pull out my Xbox 360 from storage. After playing GTA V for about a hour I have to say although this game is truly amazing, it's such a crying shame to have to play on current gen consoles. Moving from playing games on my medium range PC "765m" to playing on a Xbox 360 feels like going back 10 years in the past.
The frame rates I get on GTA V must be around 15-20 FPS. The stuttering you experience when driving fast, or quickly changing the angle on the camera is EXTREMELY noticeable.
I completely understand Rockstar's BUSINESS decision to release this game on current gen consoles. The best way to maximum their potential customer base, while minimizing their cost by focusing on only the main stream platforms. However I can not stress this enough, to not put out a next gen console / PC release of this game in a short period of time would be a crime against gaming. I personally will play $120 bux + deal with any DRM bull they can throw at me to play this game on my PC.
What do you guys think?
-
$120? How much does it cost on the Xbox? Personally, I would not pay that price for a PC release nor would I deal with any DRM bull.
I believe it was Frank Costanza on Seinfeld who said, "If they don't want me, I don't want them." RockStar can keep their game.Lalary and Ajfountains like this. -
Just say no to DRM. I have been burned too many times. No fun to pay for a game you can't play because the DRM thinks it is a illegal copy.

In my case, the last one of those console thingies I purchased was the 8-bit NES back in the 1980s, so I'm only able to play games that get released on PC.
As for DRM, I got burned on two previous GFWL games that I wasn't able to install properly, so if the PC port uses GFWL it would definitely be a pass.

GFWL is shutting down. There was a posting from MS on it, but it was quickly pulled down. Now the question is, what about all the old games that used it for authentication? Or used it for multiplayer...
-
There is a known performance issue for GTA V on Xbox if you install the Play disc as well as the Installation disc. Only install the Installation disc.
As for dusting off the Xbox, too right. Hadn't played anything on it it many, many months, and despite looking good as it is, I know this game would look incredible on PC, and they just play so much better with mouse and keyboard. I'm hoping they've sorted out a way of DRM'ing the game and we'll see it released at the same time as the next gen consoles, late November. I'll happily buy it again. -
Nvidia briefly leaked that the PC port would be in the Fall. Nvidia confirms, then denies, incoming GTA V PC port | bit-gamer.net
-
Oh well, if it won't come to PC I atleast will still have my social life, because I refuse to buy it on console.
-
I will never buy i console, i cant and even if i could i wont.
-
I bet that it not only comes out for pc, but also for ps4 and one as well.
GTA V is the most expensive game ever made.
and although it will sell loads, GTA as a series is a legacy sale game.
meaning its a game that will continue to sell for years.
nothing else makes sense from a business perspective.
release the game for current gen consoles, sell loads.
dont announce it for pc since its basically what next gen is so sales wont be cannibalized.
then announce it for next gen, and sell loads of copies for users to come.
and probably multiple copies for gamers eager to upgrade their GTA experience to next gen. -
I actually enjoy playing GTA IV on a PC (FX-6300, GTX 560SE and I notice nothing wrong with the gameplay at high settings @ 1080p...).
I don't think I'll consider buying V until it's ported to the PC. My Xbox LIVE Gold should be running out in a few months and I don't want to pay another $50-$60 just to be able to play games online when I can do that for "free" on my desktop.
My Xbox 360 remains dusty. Well, actually, until my Gold runs out, it serves as a Netflix box for me to watch Breaking Bad from bed. But otherwise, I haven't played a 360 game in forever (though I also only own MW3, Black Ops, and Ace Combat 6, so my library's extremely small).killkenny1 and Ajfountains like this. -
Yup; not dusting off till PC. My 360 Gold hasn't been used in about 2 years and I was pretty competitive with the Halo and Fight Night franchises from an online perspective so my Gold purchase was well justified. However I have too many unplayed PC games to care about the 360 right now. I did upgrade to the PS+ for Uncharted 3, VF:5 FS (again I like online competitive fighters) and was thoroughly enjoying playing those and watching netflix and movies ripped to my 500gig Seagate portable HDD. Unfortunately my PS3 HDD (a custom replaced HDD I put on in 2008) died during a power surge. I'm not going to replace the HDD despite it being very cheap since the PS4 is on the horizon. Not only am I not upgrading the HDD (and losing out on my psn+) I am going to wait a bit to get a PS4. This is the FIRST gen I am not getting a new console at launch..but I guess that's for another thread. Hmmm maybe I will make that right now

. Once they have done the good port for new Consoles, that is only need little modification to PC architecture.

I dusted off the 360, installed around 4 updates and deleted a bunch of HDD stuff for games that were all sold some time ago to recover about 6GB. It hasn't been turned on in over a year and the only game I had was GoW3 which I've barely started...
however, GTAV has already been played about 10 hours and I bet there is another 120-150 easy in it for me over the next few months, the game will likely become by far the best price per hour I've ever had (crips, even golf and tennis is interesting).
I refused to play Red Dead Redemption due to it's PC status (still may do bargain bin one day), but after the delay and port quality of GTAIV, I had no intention of waiting for when/if while the story and tricks of the game get sprawled all over the internets, ruining the experience when/if it does come to pc.
It's hard enough keeping people and media from spoiling a football game score for me when I have it recorded, GTAV should prove to be impossible for such a long time expected.
Maybe by the time a port comes, I'll have long finished my fun on the 360 and will be ready to fire it up again with improved PC graphics. I can always hope for an optimistic result.

Almost went out and bought it. Then looked at my steam library. Over the past few years I have found myself skipping the inital release of a game and just waiting for it to go on sale, especially if it is a game that will have DLC and as such will eventually have a GOTY. I've found that even waiting just 6 months is worth it. I was just able to pick up Bioshock 1, 2, AND Infinite for just $20 on amazon, and then buy the season pass for another $20.

I couldn't hold out. I took my 360 out of retirement and ordered GTA5 online. It's been so long since I've played a game a 30fps, I hope my spoilt self can deal with it.
-
Haven't touched my 360 in years, wasn't sure she'd even still start... but picked up a copy of V at Best Buy, couldn't resist. Gotta say, spent a good bit of time playing yesterday evening, game doesn't disappoint! Will of course look better on PC and I'm sure I'll pick up a copy in a couple years after it's ported and on sale for $5, but it looks surprisingly good for a current gen console.... especially once you take the scale of the massive game world into account.
Game is awesome... even more open world than 4 with some noticeable improvements... will definitely be a treat on PC not to be missed.
On a side note, game map being open from the beginning is great. Smashed through security, hopped into a business jet and spent an hour circling the map exploring from a few hundred feet up... right until I entered restricted military airspace and was promptly shot down in flames... only to bail out over the ocean, be surrounded by sharks and eventually busted by police boats...

I used to own an Xbox before PC gaming spoilt me with its epicness. I will never play on a console again regardless of what they release on it. As Ive said before, no PC release, no sale. The GTA franchise was born on the PC and they have shunned us so why should we then reward them by buying it on an inferior system?
Thanks but no thanks Rockstar. If they remember how to treat the ones that supported them from the start, maybe it would be different. Just imagine if more people took a stand, they would really think twice but they know people will just buy it anyway so they can treat us how they want.alienowl likes this. -

I'd like to be able to go back and play my game in the future if I went to the trouble of paying for it.
Consoles have not been very effective for that purpose for me. The consoles either die, or the media dies, and then it's game over (literally). And it's incredibly impractical to attempt to maintain and connect / disconnect many consoles and media formats (discs, cartridges, memory cards, etc). The computer is dramatically more practical. I figure for most people, they need computers anyway and the nominal cost to get it working for games is the cost of a graphics card. My little rant.
I'll definitely wait for GTA5 for the PC. -
Not an excuse, and I couldn't agree more that PC gaming is superior and more modable, enjoyable, etc, but every so often a game comes along that I just want to play and don't care what hardware it's available on... it's totally silly Rockstar has taken the path they have taken and I don't want to "reward" them for it, but on the other hand my gamer side appreciates an epic game in genres I enjoy, and IMHO GTAV fits that description
Long live the PC! -
I never finished 4 because of DRM issues on the PC (stupid gfwl nonsense deleting my saves when I needed to move to a new computer or reinstall), so unless it's using steamworks by itself I'm not going to bother.
Nor am I spending 200 on a console to play it... even though I (kind of) did just do that for Pokemon. Priorities?
Aside from that, I have more than enough games right now to play so I don't need to spend launch day pricing.moviemarketing likes this. -
I think I'm gonna wait till it hits PC to buy it. I just don't enjoy playing games on Xbox anymore.

As far as I remember, since GTA Vice City (not sure if this was a trend since 3) the PC version has always been 6-8 months later than the console version. GTA IV was the largest unoptimized mess of a game ever, surpassing Crysis and Metro series even, but that's its own story. I was able to play it decently on my 280M at 1200p mostly high settings while maintaining above 30fps in every instance except when attaining maximum speeds on the cars over say... a bridge... in daytime. If it was raining or at night, I would get higher fps. That is until the 1.0.5 patch, which made the game rely less on the video card and more on the CPU (from my testing). 1.0.4 gives me the best fps. 1.0.5 and 1.0.7 were just as bad as each other and the game ran terribly on my PC after they were released; so much so as that I couldn't maintain above 26fps in ANY circumstance unless I nearly put the game down to its minimum settings.
Whoo, kinda went on a tangent there. But yes, GTA IV was an anomaly. Because micro$oft bought a 1 year exclusivity license to the game for Xbox 360, and the same for all its DLC, it took forever to show up on PC and PS3 and sadly, rockstar didn't seem to care to optimize it properly during that year. The rest though did come out in timely manners and I believe GTA V will do the same. As for optimization... well we'll have to see. It CANNOT be more unoptimized than GTA IV however, so I'd say same engine, same console, same graphics, same or better PC optimization. I also say that if it does NOT come out for PC, that's a lot of money Rockstar will lose and a break in the tradition that all major GTA games come to PC, which I doubt will happen. So I expect it to be for PC. I expect that sometime between now and for the latest May next year we'll see it. I expect that most of our laptops will max or near max it out. I expect somebody to mod power ranger suits into the game. I expect a lot of things.
But the one thing I don't expect is the lack of a PC port. -

I'd only get GTA5 if it's a $10 to $15 PC game. Got GTA4 on a Steam sale, played it a little, and I wasn't interested. It's also HIGHLY ANNOYING that there is no quick save at anytime in this game, so that means every game session needs a lot of time to allow to get to a save point.
I don't like gaming on consoles too, and I'd probably never buy a console. The only advantage of console gaming is Kinect and playing on a big screen HDTV. -

It will come to PC no doubt about it. Release now to the masses that own a 360 and or PS3. Then when sales start to take a major dip. Tweak and re-release for PC. Finally or at the same time re-release for new consoles. Job's a goodun.
Don't know why people can't hold out. As for spoilers? Really I think unless you look for videos on YouTube about GTA 5 you will remain in the dark about the story.
For now FC3 is a pretty good open world game on the PC. Not as diverse as GTA 5 but still very fun! -
-
I have been very tempted to buy a PS3 just for this game, because of how bad GTA IV was on PC, plus reports that the PC version may never come out.
Then I remembered I can't use a controller. -
A little OT here, but the last big game that made me dust off a console was Last of Us. Sadly, I'm about halfway through and the girlfriend came home with GTA:V the other night. So now I'm putting time into both games and getting side tracked.
I had purchased GTA:IV for PC from a Steam sale this summer but have yet to install it. With what I'm reading here, it may never get installed. So far, I am enjoying V. For being a PS3 game, the visuals are very nice. I haven't experienced any of the slow down noted in this thread, but then again I'm not really looking for it either. I know it's not going to be the best looking or best performing game/system, but for what it is, it's a very enjoyable game.D2 Ultima likes this. -
Well I got my copy last night and had a decent play. It's a great game that pushes the dusty old 360 to the limit. I can't help but wish I was playing it at 60fps and 1080p though. I really hope we get a good PC port. The game has so much attention to detail that's wasted.

does GTA V run on your m11x r2? please reply asap as i am planning to buy an used one for around $440. do u think the m11x r2 is worth $440? if not, how much should it cost? I am worried about its GT 335M gpu. i am guessing it does not possess enough juice to run 2013 games. am i right?

the gt335m is too outdated.. save some money and get a better machine..

I have my old 360 and I still haven't purchased this. I will, when it eventually comes to the PC. On sale. For around $20 after they have finally released all the different DLC and bundled it together. IF they optimize it for the PC better than they did for GTA IV.

On a side note, I traded my old Alienware desktop from 2007 with an AMD 2.4GHz dual-core, 8800GTS, 3.5GB RAM, 600GB HDD loaded with games for a Xbox 360 with all the Halo's and GTA V. I'll admit the game doesn't look and run too great, but it is still enjoyable. The only problem is that I fail miserably at aiming with a controller...
