OK I have been having issues with my laptop ASUS G72... It will start to blink while playing games on Facebook. Sometimes the screen will go black and I can barley see the image behind the blackness. When I get out of the game it usually stops. I was told that the video card could be attached to the mother board? So I am wondering if I can just buy a card and replace it myself or do I need to take this to a computer shop and pay the big bucks for it? I know a little about computers. Can someone please help me. If anyone knows please reply to this or send me a email. [email protected].

    Thank you in advance
    Diane

Hi Diane and welcome to nbr

we will need more info of your spec on your computer.
motherboard, how much ram, graphics card if its intergrated or dedicated and what operating system you are running 32/64bit vista or windows 7
also have you ever cleaned your fans out at all just in case it could be temperature related.
then we will try to help.

Your laptop is somewhat old, so if you haven't already go to nvidia.com/drivers and download the one for the 260M and install your latest driver.

(You will need to know whether you have 32bit or 64bit operating system, which you can find by going to Control Panel > then System, [Only if you're not in category view])

can you try and plug in the laptop to an external screen or HDTV to see if the problem still persist? that way we can at least eliminate one of the cause?

as mentioned it could be the video driver but if its only games on facebook then it could be the screen.

also check what power option you have. click on the battery in the bottom right task bar and see if its set to high performance or balanced.

you can find out what nvidia driver you have by going to start > control panel > nvidia control panel > bottom left system information. at the top of the page it will tell you if you are using 32 or 64bit and on the first row will be the graphics driver you have loaded.

its a dedicated 260gtx so why not. or do asus make their laptops intentionally so you cant upgrade or change.

I think it is possible but tricky and not worth the effort. The cpu and gpu share the same heatpipe.

That laptop series has a separate graphics card you can install, there usually $150-$200. Does the problem happen while watching flash videos too? It could be since flash is being used the graphics card is put under strain and shows signs of failing. It happens to quite a few of that series
