Hey, yesterday I installed RA3 which used to run ok on medium on my last laptop. To my suprise it runs maxxed out at 1920x1200 with perfectly smooth gameplay on my new laptop. I was shocked, and pleased. Now im looking for some people to reccomend me some more really graphics demanding games to try out. Don't mention the below because I already have them or their demo.

    Farcry2
    Crysis Warhead
    Fallout 3
    Grid
    GTAIV
    Dead Space
    COD 4
    Bioshock
    UT3
    RA3

Supreme Commander? Though that also has high CPU requirements, so may not be the best test of a GPU.

    What are your specs, anyway?

idk if this is heavily taxing but i know sins of a solar empire is large. I believe you can zoom out to the entire galaxy and command units all over it.

then there is burnout paradise for all around fun.

SupCom is CPU bound - not the game to get to show off a fast GPU

to the OP: run Stalker:Clear Sky enhanced full dynamic lighting DX10 settings with full lighting effects if you want to see a "gpu-intensive" game

my 8800GTS can pull about 5-10fps in Clear Sky at the Clear Sky base on full settings 1920x1200, NO AA, thats with DX9 mode which is less stressful than DX10 from what i hear

the game is also absolutely beautiful imo, the Clear Sky base especially is a marvel of lighting and shadow effects, much more so than Crysis imo although some would disagree

I had the first one, the Shadow of Chernobyl, it was decent graphics. Is Clear Sky really that much better? If so, maybe I should think about picking it up.

I have Mirrors Edge, its not that GPU taxing, but its nice. I really needa start beating some of these games, I buy so many and never finish them. lol.

what specs do you have for your laptop?

Clear Sky's plot may not be better, but the graphics are far better with DX10 and new textures, models, etc....but trees still look like crap.

Crysis still looks better, it's got better geometry and better artistry even at medium/high settings. STALKER: CS has somewhat funny looking character models, and while yes the game has higher resolution textures and has some new DX10 technologies not employed in Crysis, Crysis still looks more photoreal simply because the devs are better at making use of the tech. The lighting and the "little" things help achieve that. I've noticed this with Far Cry 2 in comparison as well. The actual artistry in Crysis is just better, even if Far Cry 2 does have some higher texture resolutions.

imo Clear Sky isnt as much a prequel to Stalker as it is a more fleshed-out version of Stalker, more in line with the original vision that the designers had but could never finish - barricaded bases, firing platforms, complex anomaly searching, patrols, joinable factions, faction wars, can make mods to weapons and armor

more than half the maps are from the original Stalker but modified heavily with about 10x more people and far more objects and barricades/blockposts etc

some of the trees DO look like crap, as noted; i think there are mods out to correct it but i never bothered

the biggest problem with Stalker and CS for me was that its not one seamless world like Fallout is; you constantly feel surrounded by impassable barbed wire fences...because you are

for Stalker 2 they will undoubtedly do a seamless environment engine; maybe the current one can be converted in some shape

actually playing through Clear Sky it doesnt even seem reasonable that its a prequel since all the bases are far more modified and improved, in a way that wouldnt have disappeared by the supposed timeframe of the original; if anything it seems like it takes place AFTER the original Stalker as if the Zone was far more colonized

Grand Theft Auto 4. It's not as graphically advanced as crysis, but it is horribly optimized. I'm not sure if a patch fixed it yet or not though.

before i uninstalled Empire i was horrified as to how much worse it ran while not looking noticeably better than M2...simply amazing...they say its a different engine but it looks almost identical to me..

also from what i heard GTA4 IS horribly optimized but on the CPU side, meaning its vastly more CPU bound, thus not the best example imo
