I recently bought a dv8000 with an ATI Xpress 200M graphics card. So far I've been impressed by the card's ability to run games such as Guild Wars and Half Life 2 w/ all graphic options enabled. But, during gameplay and seemingly at random, the graphics will go haywire (examples in the attached images). I don't use 2 monitors regularly, I was just testing to see if it was a problem with the LCD...

Can anyone explain this? Is it just overheating (I have not done any overclocking)? Also, why would the card's core speed only be 300MHz, when ATI's specs clearly state it has a 350MHz core?

Anyway, thanks for any insight you can provide.

It might be overheating, but it could be the card too. Do you have it overclocked, if so what are you settings. The other thing is try to reinstall the drivers etc to see if that will help out. At least if it doesn't you can eliminate that option.

The card is not overclocked. I ran PowerStrip and ATI Tool just to see what it was running at, right now it's default at 300:250 (although ATI's specs say it should be 350:x)...

[edit]So technically, the card is underclocked. Would overheating still be possible? What's a good program to run to check GPU/CPU temps?[/edit]

I reinstalled drivers (5.10) and the problems persisted. It's still under warranty and HP is telling me to send it back, but just wanted to check here to see what any one else might think it is...

[edit]I'll probably install the 5.13 drivers tonight and see if that helps any, but for some reason I'm thinking it's not a driver issue...[/edit]

Mabye it's a driver problem...have you tried using an older/newer driver set? Also try out the Omega drivers.

lmao, looks like you reformatted your laptops hard drive and didnt install your display drivers but compensated by turning up to the highest screen covering setting. is your screen on laptop always that size?

think im going to wait and see your response to the above help before i add to this.
