Hello, I bought recently the game F.E.A.R. since I missed it and found it at a very good price.

Anyways, I was playing the mission Bishop (Interval 06) and I found that at times there was both sttuttering and tearing. The first time I decided to go on until the game was totally unplayable and saw the pixels going all funny colors (indicating the GPU was at trouble). So I restarted the computer and played again from my save and I found the same situation another 2 or 3 times on the same level, but I quitted the game the moment I noticed the sttutering/tearing appeared.

Then I launched the the ATITools utility and scanned for artifacts for more than an hour and there was no problem. So I played the game again and found no more problems in the subsequent missions.

Does anybody have faced similar problems?, and if so, is there anything I can do to prevent it again?

Maybe your card started to overheat. Check all your vents for dust blockage.

Actually I cleaned the vents (with compressed air) about a week ago, so I do not think it is the cause.

In addition, after using ATITool to look for artifacts, I kept monitoring the temps afterwards and the maximum temperature was 62°C.

check your temps in-game everytime you play (any game) from now on, so if it happens again you can see if its temperature related.

I never had that problem with FEAR, XP or PM... I played all three on that same GPU.

    good luck!

If it was overheating on an older game like FEAR, ATItool would've definitely overheated it.

I'd try the two easiest things first: video driver, and look for a FEAR patch.

Thank you guys for the responses. So far I have the (video) drivers up to date and the game patched. Oddly enough after that mission I have not experienced it anymore.

That is good to hear. I did find that at native resolution 1680x1050 my ddr2 8600M struggled with fear with all settings to absolute max. Your DDR3 card is more powerful however.

No problems running at max setting with everything on.
    Check the driver..
