Here are something I want to know
how is the graphic performance of ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 2600 XT PCI Express Graphics 512 MB GDDR3 Dedicated Memory?
What kind of game can it run (exluding the high end fps).
Can it edit video fast?
The machine is Gateway M-6874h

I have a Mobility Radeon HD 2600 and when I overclock it to XT speeds I can play Crysis with everything on Medium(aprox 15-25fps). Havn't had much time to play many other games. Counter Strike runs with my stock speeds with everything on High. As for video editing, it should be decent as long as the program your using is multi-threaded(meaning it uses both processors instead of just one). When rendering the videos both procs should be at or around 100%. The 3GB of ram should also be useful for videos. That laptop seems like pretty much top notch.
The only other thing you might want to take a look at is graphic card editing programs like ATI's Avivo (dont know if they support mobile gpu's though) -
it is about the same as a 7800GTX, it should be able to play most newer games.
-
please read the stickies before posting...
here is GPU Guide -
and no... its not like a 7800GTX.
The ATI 2600 is a mid-range card (128-bit memory interface)
the 7800GTX is a high-end card (256-bit memory interface).
The ATI 2600 XT is closer to the Nvidia 9600M GT in overall performance and specs. -
It will be able to play all current games.
Crysis (the current most GPU demanding game) it will play at ~Medium. -
It is NOT an XT. It is just a regular HD 2600.

If it is not an XT, its more comparable to the 9500M GS or 8600M GS.
But it will still be able to play Crysis on ~Medium. -
If it's not XT than I would have to disagree with being able to play crysis @ medium...With stock speeds (500/600) Medium is unplayable at 1440x900. The only way it would run was if I lowered the resolution. If you want to run in 1440x900 at least 1/2 the settings will need to be switched to low and no AA. Only when overclocked can I run Medium @ 1440x900 at a decent framerate and I have the GDDR3 model...sorry to dissapoint. But CoD4 ran fine on medium at 1440x900! (didnt try high)

Not exactly interested in Crysis.
What about Vegas 8/7/6. which version can be run?
BTW. I got this laptop bran new for only 699 from staples
If it is not XT, can I overclock, will it heat up the laptop? -
Remember, i never did say at 1440x900.
Ok, that is just for comparason.
Are you reffering to the Video Editor (Vegas 8)? -
Yes. Video editor.
Can I run Red Alert 3 on this? Not into FPS -
Yes, it will be able to handle Vegas 8. Video Editors arent GPU dependant. Unless you are doing 3D animation maybe, but it will still work.
Yes, Red Alert 3 will run fine.

I should probably start a new thread on this, but is there any problem like the nvidia 8600, 8400? And did I get a good value ($699) with this machine?
-
What do you mean?
Problems with being defective and all? no. -
yeah.
I think i got a good value? what do you guys think -
Ok then, no they are not defective.
Yep, thats a pretty good price for the specs. -
That's a pretty hard deal to beat
As for Non-FPS games, my laptop runs Supreme Commander With every set to High, save AA which is at 4x. RTS games like Supcom and C&C usually depend more on the CPU than the FPS games cause they have to keep track of more units and so on. But I suspect it will run C&C3 fine if it can take Sumpreme Commander, especially since my friend's laptop has the same proc as you, only 2GB ram, and an 8400G(slower card than yours) and everything looks fine on that rig
Yes, overclocking will heat up your laptop. Depending on the cooling system Gateway designed it'll handle different levels of OCing before you'll need to stop(depending on who you talk to it's between 80-90C). On my 8510p I can overclock it to 700/800(gpu/mem) and my temps stay at 54 after an hour of stressing and no cooler, but it depends on the heat the pipes/fans can take and the card itself. Not all cards are built equal and some just dont OC as high. Make sure you stress it and check for artifacts. ATI Tray Tools has a nice utility for that. If you get any artifacts you'll want to lower the speeds or you might cause damage. You might want to look into a cooling pad and undervolting your cpu if you're serious about OCing. They will both help keep your system from overheating. -
Oh yeah, and i recommend not overclocking, you dont need to.
