Okay guys. Two weeks from now I'll be ordering my brand-new NP9262, and I have a dilemma here.

Originally I was going to get it with 2x 9800m GT 512's in SLi mode, but not that long ago (2 weeks, maybe?) they released a version with 2x 9800m GTX 1GB's in SLi.

Is it worth the extra $$$$ (and it's a substantial amount, something like $660 more) to have the dual GTX's or will the GT's be fine?

Software I'm looking at to run is going to be like, Stalker/ Stalker CS with full dynamic, and Fallout 3 (Which needs a dang system specs release; the game's supposed to ship at the end of THIS month and they still haven't announced the specs).

Btw, it's currently spec'd out as

    17" WUXGA 1920x1200 Glossy Widescreen
Dual 9800m GTX 1GB's in SLi
    C2Q Q9650 @ 3.0GHz (Or a C2D E8600 @ 3.33GHz, I like the Quad, but you guys might change my mind on that)
    4 GB DDR2-800
    200 GB SATA-II 7,200rpm
    Combo DVD/CDRW
    Vista Ultimate

So, which graphics card / processor combo do you guys suggest?

ABSOLUTELY go Quad core! I think the GT's are good enough IMO.

Yeah, I figured the Quad would be more useful for running my games + vista + what background apps I use.

All these new graphics card numbering systems are confusing.

Back when I last bought a new card, you could just look at the numbers and tell what was the high end of the line.

Of course, the last card I bought and didn't adopt was a Radeon 9800 Pro R.1

The GT's all the way :)

Keep that $660.00 for all of the games you will buy instead :p

Something along the lines of $250, I believe.

    $275.

According to the specs of the cards. The 9800mGT is the notebook version of the desktop 8800GS/9600GSO, while the 9800mGTX is the notebook version of the desktop 8800GT. The 9800mGTX cards SHOULD perform roughly 30% better, or more in most games. If you plan to run games in your LCD's native resolution, I definately think the 9800m GTX's would be the better option.

    Hmm.

Also, do I really need Vista Ultimate, or can I get away with Home Premium?

If I go down on that to Premium, I can keep the GTX's, go up to a 320GB 7,200RPM HDD, and still stay under my (hopeful) goal of $3,900.

I recommend you going with Home Premium. The things you get with Ultimate isn't worth the price premium, unless you have to have Texas Hold 'em and Dreamscene.

I know there are some Clevo resellers that are currently out of the 9800 GT (it is being discontinued shortly as an update is rumored). You might wanna check with your reseller and be sure that your hopes of 2 GT's in SLI is still available.

^ Check on that as well i guess.

I would still say go with Home Premium, the GT's, Quad Core, and 200GB HDD, you will be under your goal with money to spend on games to play on your BEAST of a system. Besides, the NP9262 can be upgraded (atleast the graphics card) no?
