Nice to know their site fails to work on SLI or Crossfire solutions. At least they include mobile card numbers...

Yea that site disappoints when it comes to multiple GPU's. They show the Radeon 5970 (aka 2x 5870's on one PCB) as being a worse card (lower score) than the 5870. I noticed that yesterday and since then I removed that website from my bookmarks.

EDIT: They also show the 6870 scoring better than the 5870, when in reality the 6870 is a replacement for the 5850 and is much less powerful than a 5870.

Sorry jeremyshaw, lol, I just thought it was a cool chart going some back...but I suppose for hard core gamers it does not answer their questions of SLI.... I was actually just googling and found it when searching for the HD 6850 since I'll be returning my Envy 17 3D and getting the upgrade when it comes out with this GPU. As long as I can still play at fairly high levels I'll be happy.

I wanted a computer that is sleek, sexy, classy, and can play a few games. I suppose if I just wanted SLI gaming I could have gone the Alienware route, but those guys are insanely expensive as we all know. I'm not willing to shell out about $6,000 or more for a high end gaming laptop.

And notebookcheck is known to be crap in real life as well. Prime example is the 5850 in the Alienware M15x, even at stock it stomps the majority of cards that are above it on their bench list.

Is really GeForce GT 445M (1010 pts), better than GeForce 280M GTX (907 pts.)?

This chart seems inaccurate to me.

It has 144 shaders vs 128 shaders.... so it's plausible. The GTX280m was nothing more than a G92 (8800gts512, 9800gtx, gts250) core put into a laptop.

A completely maxxed out m17x should run no more than 4000usd. Any more than that, and you have been pricegroped :p And at that price range, it's better in price/perf vs what Sager has for it (admittedly, it's a GTX480m setup...)

thanks jeremyshaw, I still won't spend $4,000... my max was a bit over $2,200 for the Envy 17 3D. If I was filthy rich I'd consider it.

Thanks it is. Since I'm within the 21 day return policy, I'm returning it and gonna get the new Envy 17 3D with Sandy Bridge and the HD 6850. Excited that it has HDMI 1.4a support so I will now be able to see Bluray 3D movies on an external HDTV 3D with my Envy and some HDMI cable! ;) That one will be a keeper...and of course I'll be playing some games.haha

I wouldn't base any judgement on a benchmark like this one.

Really the best way to judge a GPU is to judge it in the system it is in also. So figure out what system you like, which one interests you. Then go to the forum here for that manufacturer and see if you can search for GAME benchmarks. See how the GPU actually works in the games you are interested in.

Either way, it's better to see how a system works in the games and applications you are interested in, not some random synthetic benchmark. If you had to use synthetic, just go with 3DMark Vantage for DX10 and 3DMark 2011 for DX11.

basically the 285m was just an evolution of the 2006 nvidia design. the 445m is based on very recent chips. they are probably pretty close depending on the configuration, but the 285 is likely a bit faster.

There is little doubt in my mind the 285M would be faster. Frankly it's no slouch, if you couldn't get a 5870M, 5850M or 460M, I would suggest someone a 285M. For DX10 and DX9 games that beast should be more than capable for any of the current releases at high settings. And the 285M does run cool and it is power efficient, has better battery life than 5850M or 460M. If absolute best power wasn't important, 285M personally, is an ideal high end GPU for notebooks.

Since a GTX 480M is rated higher on this site than a GTX 295, I'll pass on this site thanks. In real world applications and benchmarks, the GTX 295 shatters the GTX 480M.

GTX 295 does shatter the GTX 460M on that list. The GTX 460M is NOT GF104, it's GF106 GTS 450 which ranks much lower than the GTX 295.

But I do find it amazing that a GTX 280 is faster than the 295 on the list.

Why are you bringing the GTX 460M into this?

Sry misread. Not sure why the 480M is ranked higher than the 295 there. It's definitely a weird benchmark.
