    It should be HD 5850 > GTX 280M > GTX 260M > 9800M GT

The HD 5850 might actually be a little slower than the GTX 280M at stock clocks, but it over clocks extremely well and is therefore much better. Overclocked, it can even outpace the HD 5870 at stock.

...Depending on whether the VRAM is GDDR3 or GDDR5

The 9800m gt is the same card as the 8800m gtx. And the 9800m gtx is pretty similar to the gtx 260m.

Then why is the 5850 lower on this list?

I also did a little research and I found found some people saying that the 5850 performs a little bit like the 260m?

I think its the gddr3 model, it's the one that ships with the original m15x

    sorry didnt notice the /

I think the issue here is that the 5000 series ati cards are more efficient no matter how you look at it, so even if a 280m is better than 5870 at stock clocks, its much easier and safer to overclock the 5870 and it will end up running cooler than the 280m at much better performance.

i agree, those seem like gddr3.

Im not to concerned with the 5870 : /

    but from what it looks like its Overclocked: 5850 > 280m > 260m > 9800m gt
    and Stock: 280m > 5850 > 260m > 9800m gt

    am i right?

I think he meant to say 5850, since a 5870 will always beat a 280M.

That's, about right I think, but really the 5850 and 280M are VERY close at stock, to the point that they trade places in many cases.

Also, I've heard that the 5850 overclocks particularly well in the M15x, so it's definitely a better deal.

Hmm, thanks I was trying to decide what card to get in my m15x (the old one) and was wondering which card would beat out the 5850 which is the card my cousin has in his M15x (the new one), guess i'll buy the 8800m/9800m since its much more stable then the 260m and the 280m inside the m15x.
