Alrighty, heres the deal.
I have an HP Dv6000 notebook with 2 GB RAM, 120 GB hardrive, AMD X2 Turion 64 bit processors(around 2.0 GHz combined), and an Nvidia Geforce Go 7200 graphics card.
I play counterstrike:source and dod:source games like a DREAM.
Highest settings, just amazing.
I recently bought Battlefield 2142.
SWEET game, however lots of problems for people including myself![]()
The game sends my video driver or card, 1 of the 2, into an INFINITE LOOP.
(THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE)
This in turn tells windows to stop, which causes my notebook to freeze up completly. Manual restart is then needed.
This gets rediculously agrivating when I'm int he middle of a round.
I tried updating my Nvidia Go 7200 chipset to the most recent driver for it, that doesnt help.
I was wondering if I could update my video card. I'm pretty sure there's a PCI slot on my motherboard and theres no chipset soldered in or anything like that.
If I can upgrade my video card, what other Nvidia models can I choose to update to. I want to make sure it's compadible with my motherboard.
Lastly, where would I go wo buy one of these upgrade chipsets. I'm pretty confident I could install myself, btu just in case, I could take it somewhere. I just don't know where I'd buy the updated card/chipset int he first place.
All help is much appreciated.
Thank you for viewing my LONG thread.
Take Care,
John S.![]()

Most of the notebooks GPU cannot be upgraded coz they r soldered in. U could check out if it's a MXM card (which i seriously believe it is not), then u might hav the chance of upgrading it, but the chance is very slim.

Can I get a whole new motherboard for this notebook? If so, how much and where?

You can't change the video card in your notebook - it is impossible on all levels.
Updating your video drivers is an option.

I'm sorry to say it, but you are stuck with the GPU your system has in it.
Perhaps try lowering the settings on BF2142. -

You have a beautifull system but your videocard is just way too low to handle BF2142. Like chrisyano said, you are stuck with the GPU in your system. Next time if you buy a notebook check the videocard too. Unless you are a gamer the 7200Go is fine.
But if you are planning to play BF etc. go for another GPU.

does battlefield 2142 support duo core?

I ran BF2142 on my desktop (P4 3.2GHz w/HT (Northwood), 2GB DDR400, 256MB ATI 9800XT) with no problems at 800x600 with everything on high and 2X AA. I could also run the game at 1024x768, but I had to revert to medium settings. -

Just one question Chaz,
I have noticed that you prefer to play games at lower resolution and high details instead of high (native) resolution and lower details. Don't you mind that everything looks streched and blurry? -

i agree chaz, i cant stand playing a game that looks ugly, i would much rather turn down the resolution then graphic settings.

Highest settings? what a load of BS!
My old desktop with amd64 3200,1GB,x700Pro couldnt run it on high settings and you tellin me that some crapy geforce 7200go will run it so well. -

What are you talking about? The x700 kills the 7200. The 7200 is an intigrated solution and not really meant for gaming. The x700 is a full graphics card. It has a full 8 pixel pipelines, dedicated RAM, 6 Vertex units, and a 128bit memory bus. It runs oblivion on medium-highish settings. CS Source can run on high settings, but NOT highest.
-
The X700 is light years better then the 7200. But The 7200 can still play HL2 at high settings, but not everything enabled, and in maxed out res...I don't think he literally meant every single option ticked and enabled, just generally "Highish" settings.
-
First, both the X700 and the Go 7200 are dedicated cards.
Second, the Go 7200 (low-end card) is light years behind the X700 (outdated but still capable mid/high-end gaming card.) -
-
Oops, thought it was the replacement for their intigrated solution.

I also run CS:S at 1680x1050 with the highest settings + 4X AF when I am away from my desk. Runs perfectly smooth, around 45-55FPS. Can't handle HDR at that resolution though. -
Thats subjective opinion. I can stand low FPS, I just cant stand jumpy framerates. I'd rather turn down the graphics and turn on V-sync on to have a smooth 60fps instead of a jumpy 45-60. Heck, I'd rather have a smooth 25fps over the somewhat jumpy 25-35fps.
Once again, this is just opinion though.
However, I consider highest graphic settings as maxed out AA and AF with full details/textures (whatever the game calls them). Resolution I dont include in highest settings, since resolution depends on the monitor.

NVM about the x700 thing, I saw a x700 getting less fps then me, it was my friends, turns out it was undeclocked. Sorry guys, you are all right.
