Hi All,
Hoping you can help me resolve the graphics issue I'm having while playing EQ2 or provide suggestions. Could this be a heat related issue or just a driver problem? What I'm referring to specifically is all the multi-colored squares across the screen. I Run EQ2 at Balanced setting sometimes High Performance. This occurs in either mode after a certain period of time - about an hour give or take.

My Specs
- Asus G1 - only upgrades are to a 7400 HD
- It happens with both the factory drivers for the 7700 Go and then I used some of the latest tweaked drivers for this card (TweaksRUs XTreme-G MobileForce) Version: 97.92 M4 Windows 2000/XP (32-bit) - based on NVIDIA ForceWare 97.92
Thanks for your time!

I am having the same problem with artifacts in BF2 with the G1....still have not found a solution, i'm guessing because the 7700 is fairly new the drivers are not quite there yet? anyway, nice to hear i'm not the only one having problems
-
that looks and sounds like artifacting ala overheating. are you overclocked? are your air intake and exhaust vents blocked?
-
You aren't running the game in Vista with those drivers are you??
-
It can be three things: buggy drivers, overheated card, or defective card.
I suggest just narrowing it down to find the culprit. Find a program that monitors temps and play a game, then check the GPU temp. If it's low it's not overheating. The driver problem will be harder since Vista drivers still leave a lot to be desired. Your best bet is to probably just ride it out for a few driver releases to see if it helps the problem. If that turns out to not be the issue, call Asus and have them replace your card. -
I run WinXP Media Center and I initially thought it was overheating because it would take nearly an hour of playing before this would appear. I do not overclock at all.
I have checked the tempature of the GPU - highest I have seen is 72 Celcius - which isn't really that bad. I also do not have the air vents blocked in anyway as I usually play on a flat surface similar to a TV tray.
This problem occured on both the factory drivers that came on the G1 and the upgraded ones I installed. Don't get me wrong, the performance of the game is fantastic - I just have this problem after playing a while and I can get it to go away temporarily by changing the game performance to something different, then changing it back.
I Appreciate everyones input.

I have the exact same problem with WoW. Bump for a fix anyone?
(I have a stock G1) -
In the last 2 days I have played with the (TweaksRUs XTreme-G MobileForce) Version: 97.92 M4 Windows 2000/XP (32-bit) - based on NVIDIA ForceWare 97.92 drivers. The GPU temp slowly creeps up to 85 degrees Celcius. After running at the tempature for a period of time the game will lock up, then several seconds later I get a BSOD. This has happended 3x in the last 2 day. I have now gone back to stock drivers to see what happens over the weekend. I'll report my findings early next week. I have not done any Overclocking whatsoever on my system.

I have the EXACT same thing in HL2, Civ4, and alot of other games, that I play I've got a 7900 GS.
I posted a thread about this a couple weeks ago on this board, and noone could figure out what the problem was...
I reciently formatted the computer and installed windows Vista, so I'll be looking if I still get the issues.
My thread was http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=104710 -
Did you guys ever figure out what was wrong with your unit?

i have a bud who playes EverQuest and just this easter weekend he tried my new G2 cause he wanted to see the screen. He played for about 3 hrs, participated in a raid and there were no visual probs at all.
All my settings are factory, no new drivers updated at all -
Never found the problem, but I am almost certain that it is a hardware problem, not a driver/software issue.
Note I still have the problem, I would send my laptop to Dell for repairs, but the laptop isn't actually mine, and the owner doesn't want to deal with the problem. -
I still haven't found the problem but it is certainly a hardware issue. Notice when it happens the GPU temp is 82 -84 degrees. Going into window mode then back into full screen will make it go away for a while but eventually comes back. I even used the restore disk thinking something i may have changed caused it but it still happened after the restore. I'm thinking of calling support to see if there is anything they can do. Probably replacing the thermal paste with Artic Silver would make a big difference but I'm very hesistant on doing that because of warranty issues.

I looked all over the ASUS forums trying to find others who have this problem, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I'm just chiming in to say that I also have this problem. In WoW it's manifested as the blocky texture problem an the out of wack polygon problem. BF2 I've only seen the polygon problem. I'm not sure if it's related to overheating, because I've seen the problem occur right as I was entering the game and the card had not even reached 70 degrees celsius, though it does seem to happen more frequently the longer I am in the game.

If many are having the same problem it could a driver issue.
Also does the artifacting happen in all games or specific games? -
All demanding 3d games for me.
And it can happen in menus even, on 2d sprites (eg a menu button).
I've seen it in:
Half life 2
Civ 4/WL/BTS
C&C3
City of Villains
(pretty much the only games I have)
Its strange but it seems to get worse with AA on... which doesn't make any sense (does it)? -

Does it happen will every driver you have tried?
If so, you might have a defective GPU, contact Asus. -
I've got a Dell. But yeah I've kind of already decided it was a defective GPU, I think its a problem in the memory storage.
