I am looking at a laptop to replace one of my desktops, it has an AMD x2 with 4 cores enabled and a HD5770 card. What mobile CPU and GPU would give me an equivalent power for gaming, and how much should I expect to pay?

    Irrelevant to his question.

You should be looking for a sandy bridge laptop with something like a 5870M in terms of power.

Budget is 900 maybe 1k. Been looking at the G53SW, but thats a bits over budget, so if I can find something closer to budget that would be better.

For the graphics card, you are looking at a mobility 5870 or better in the AMD department and a GTX560m or better for nVidia.

As others have said, hardware wise the 5870m is identical to your 5770. The 6870m & 460m are comparible if only a tad slower (unnoticable) and the 560m will be a hair faster. All will work fine for your needs. The Asus G73JH (5870m), G73JW (460m), and G73SW (sandy bridge 2630 CPU w/460m GPU) are all easily available for less than 1k. I would recommend the 1080p screen also. Don't buy the BST6 version as is has a gimped GPU.

If you can find one, a single card M17xR2 with a 5870m is a good laptop too and is easily upgraded (try for one with the 1200p screen).

UPdate: I just looked at Gratz's link. http://www.xoticpc.com/force-1761-msi-1761-p-3152.html?wconfigure=yes

If you can swing it, get that. A little weak on the CPU (probably = to a i7-720 though), but a great GPU, 1080p and highly upgradable.

I found a M17 R1 used on Craigslist with dual 280m, is that going to be comparable? Going for 650

Highly doubt he'd take $700 off the asking price but I bet you could swipe it for a cool $1200-1300

    No, that's a terrible option.

Buy this, add the 2 year warranty, and be happy.
