Hello!!
Im in a final stage of making my decision about the new laptop but Ive missed a importnant thing. Well, at the mo Im very close to buying HP 8510p with HD2600 DDR3 card. I was just thinking as games with DX10 are not so close to complition, is that a good reason to buy it? Or, since I wont be upgrading the laptop as whole (might add RAM or bigger HDD), wouldnt it be better to get a older 7600 ie?? I mainly will be playing DX9 games like FEAR, STALKER, Total War 2, HL2, Far Cry 2, PES 2007.
What do U think??
I also found that laptop with this gf card:
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 320M
how does it compare to 8600GT or HD2600??
-
if you want to play tommorows game then yes buy it. dx10 is the future

While DX10 has yet to prove itself (Lost Planet, being the first truly made for DX10 game, took such a performance hit from running in DX10 mode that it wasn't worth the slight increase in graphics), it will surely be required if you want to keep up with todays games.
-
Uh... correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Quadro a terrible gaming card? I thought it was more for design.
Also, I believe DX10 doesn't improve on graphics (OpenGL does, though, or something like that), but rather on performance. It utilizes something for faster rendering times, blah blah etc etc. I would ditch the HP and get a 17" which has MXM, get a high-end card in it now, and then upgrade to an 8 or 9 series later on, like, in a year from now, when games become DX10 only. May I recommend the Clevo M570RU? -
And, I don't think he is looking for a 17" notebook anyway. -
-
So, now correct me if Im wrong. That Quatro will perform same as GF8600GT or better?? And whats the difference between them?? What does it mean that is more a designer gf card??
-
The Quadro will perform better than the 8600GT. It is about the same as an 8700, I think. When I said more for design, I meant more for CAD or SolidWorks. It is powerful, but more useful for engineers rather than gamers. Apparently I'm wrong. Maybe I was thinking of another series?
-
It USUALLY means the card was designed more for performance during the creation and rendering of 3D objects rather than playing games that render 3D objects using a game's software graphics engine. The thing is, the hardware's identical between a Quadro and it's counterpart GeForce. It's just the drivers that come with it are different and you can almost always find alternative drivers for whichever card you go with. So, if you like, you can buy a quadro then go online and find some gaming (aka geforce) drivers for it. Same thing. This means all the laptops with quadros are viable options to take a look at as long as you can actually find the gaming drivers for that specific Quadro model.

That's a review about the HP 8710p with the NVS 320M
http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-HP-Compaq-8710p-Notebook.4402.0.html
And, the NVS 320M specifically is not a 3D modeling card, the FX 1600M in the HP 8710w is... anyway, both of them are the 8700M GT and will have the same performance in games when appropriate drivers are installed. -
Is there a possibility to change between drivers in a quick way than??
Im doing a lot of engineering work/rendering as well so this would suit my needs. Yet I would still be able to play games nicly -
Yes, you can change the drivers...
I would try with the professional drivers first, then if you happed to have problems with certain games you could install gaming ones instead... -
I know it is possible to change it. But is it a quick thing to do?? Like, ie. I need to do some rendering and 3d modelling I change them to original, if I want to play games I change them back???
-
Yeah it is quick, but you need to restart computer.
Usually goes like this:
uninstall current drivers>
reboot>
install new drivers>
reboot>
play/work>
repeat>
so not the easiest thing in the world.
probebly not worth your time to switch drivers... what kind of percent fps increase would you be seeing? -
Well, I know about this way, I just thought there would be something quicker
So, lets say I will have gaming drivers... would that decrease the power for 2d/3d graphics work??
And BTW what do You think is better to choose - 8510p with HD2600 and 2GHz CD2 or 8710p with 1.8GHz and that Quatro NVS 320M?? What would perform better with games?? Don't take into account the screen size. -
HA HA. So now you agree Quadro cards are only different to Geforce through drivers!
Although i didnt hink you can install Geforce drivers on Quadro cards and vice versa. although i know there are hacks for the ATI X1600 that allows them to use FIRE GL drivers and essentially turn into them a fireGL 5100. a lot of Mac users did that -
However, I guess it's news to you...
FIY, people buy the ThinkPad T61p/HP 8510w with Quadro FX 570M (8600M GT GDDR3) in order to play games on them........ wondering why... dunno check out the prices...
Graphics for DX10 worth the money??
