    Hi Folks,

Random question. What would cause my fps to drop to a crawl when my fans turn up in speed. I know the obvious answer is heat, but that's not it, simply forcing the fans to go into slower mode via a "slow mode" that I have on my laptop restores the fps back to excellent. Plus, the framerate drop for 2-3 seconds to a crawl, then goes back to excellent for 5 seconds and then again.

I am playing Assasins Creed on Clevo M860TU-based Rock Xtreme 620 with Intel T9600, GeForce 9800GT, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, on Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit. The slow down happens on both DX9 and DX10 versions. Thanks in advance!

    A.

This happened to my Toshiba P35 before. I used compressed air and blew it in the fan intake. Guess what came out the exhaust.....DUST BUNNIES!!! Lots of DUST BUNNIES!!

The good thing about the m860tu is that you can open up the whole thing and have everything accessible to you. I'd advise you get some compressed air in a can and clean that sucker out. I have one too and its performing at optimum speed.

P.S. Recently my idle graphics heat went up a few degrees. It was attributed to a collection of some particles by the fan intake which I presume ended up there because I did use the laptop in an outdoor area a few days before. I cleaned it up and now its back to normal.

Hi Deathwinger, thanks for the suggestion, don't think that's the problem though given that my laptop is fresh out of the box. Good thing I can still return it :)

It could be a faulty application of thermal compound... I would return it now, while you still can, and get another... this problem will probably only get worse.

Cheers TabbedOut, I will give them a shout tomorrow and see if I should just return it unless there are any other suggestions.
