I'm pretty sure I've made this thread before, but I can't find it because there's no more search function. Anyway, I've had Grid for about a week now, and I'm still on the first race. The car ALWAYS oversteers no matter what settings I change it to. I made a thread asking for advice before, and I followed the advice, but it didn't work. So, I'm giving the game up, probably gonna put it on eBay in the near future...

I think I've seen that before... I know all the terminology but still don't know what to do. What I need is specific numbers/% settings for the game's Advanced option menu.

Well don't you just drive using the tap method on a keyboard or d-pad of a gamepad.

    You can never oversteer.

Switch off 'stability control', and it takes out ALL the twitchiness of the controls.
Might make it a bit easier for you?

dude... first brake then turn.. no braking and turning at the same time.. how ever you can tap the accelerator repeatedly while doing so... just don't keep it pressed...

its really rewarding if you start learning how to steer the car! and once you start winning!!

Are you using a gamepad or a keyboard? Im using a game pad and when you steer you tap it unless its a wide turn then hold it. Also, remember to brake!

i just bought Grid myself and am extremely disappointed. i spent over 2 hours literally tweaking a few settings, and the only success i've gotten is that the car can travel straight now -_-

on turns or even at 0 mph and trying to turn, my car does a donut. this game only works effectively with a controller, but a keyboard in theory would work with a tremendous amount of practice

tap the button, not squeeze it till it explode...

I have absolutely no problem playing wif keyboard or gamepad.. remember to brake 1st before you turn (unless it's a 180 degree turn, it will be better to brake when you turn as well to get that oversteer), that's the best advice of all..

All I can say about countering the oversteer is that predict the oversteer and counter it. Try that car more and you somewhat generally get how it'll react in which type of corners.

didn't take me more than a day to get used to, its a game trying to pretty true to life, in real life try going 100mph in an Aston Martin round a tight corner, you couldn't do it just like you can't in GRID. You have to break or preferably slow down on corners depending on the car a LOT of the time. Best thing for new people is to just take it slowly round the track don't worry about coming first just restart before the end, just takes practice. I hated at first for the first few days but now 2 weeks later Online I regularly get anything from 4th - 1st place & yes I do use a Keyboard, nothing beats the good old keyboard.

I spent like 3 hours of my life just setting up the dang controls for the stupid car...

it made donuts, and it made a smokescreen so big, it could cover my country...

then i just figured... wth am i doing?
i just set up teh defaults, and started driving...

1.) Accelerate only when you KNOW u can(straight lines, when u know ur comeing out of a curve, Obvious places, etc..)

2.) when you're going to turn, decelerate, or brake... and turn... (dont press the keys to turn either..., just tap the keys, and immediately counter them if you're like pressing them too much.... let me give you an example of this...

    this is my 'turn-o-bar' |------ |------|
thats me in a straight line...
then here comes me when im turning (tap, tappy tap to the right)|--------- |---|...
OMG i steered too much, i have to go to the other ...(tap tappy left) |--- |---------|...
Jeeebus! its too much... i look like a snake!! tappy tap! |------ |------|
    ... perfection.

    its a balance...
try and keep it :D )

3.) now there are those dumb speedy cars that are too promiscuous on 1st gear... like above posters said, tap the acceleration...

4.) be a tad bit more patient, if you've tried already for 2 hours, then 1 more hour wont hurt.

    5.) go play stop reading!

6.) and yes, im using keyboard

    AmazingGracePlayer,

What is your graphics setting? I have similar spec as you and wanted to know what setting your playing in.

    Thanks,

PS. I am willing to buy retail GRID game for PC. I've been playing demo for last couple weeks...

I'm really, really trying to like Grid, the game is so beautiful and runs flawlessly in my computer. But so far I'm also really disapointed with it.
More than a week trying daily but I found no way to setup my controls so I can drive the cars efficiently using my MOMO Force Feedback wheel.

Almost at the same time I bought RFactor and now I'm in one online race league. The games feels MILES and miles better than Grid, when it comes to piloting the cars.

I like Grid because it's an arcade racer. Anyone who bought the game thinking it would be more sim will be severely disappointed. If you don't have a wheel, IMO, a 360 controller is the next best.

after about 30-40 minutes i was able to fully enjoy the game. a gamepad i think is necessary (360 controlleR!!!) because its simply more fun. the game really isnt that hard to get used to

I use an old wingman force GP wheel from logitech, and at first it was impossible to find a good setting for it. It took me like 1 hour of trial and error to get a setting with which worked.
What my car used to do:
I turn the wheel to the left 45 degrees. The car goes straight. I keep turning, and at about 50 degrees it would go all the way. U- turn.
For my wheel the only setting that works okeyish is:
    Steering deadzone: 5%
    Steering Saturation: 95%
    linearity: 0

Still, after for example a long turn, if I then turn the wheel back to its normal position without correct timing, the car wont go back to going straight, but rather.. "jump" and turn the opposite way.
The solution I found to that was to turn the wheel very slowly.

    Agreed.

I'm using my keyboard, I've tried breaking and then turning (like in all driving games), but it still oversteers...

I'm playing with everything on max, and no anti-aliasing. I get a frame rate at around 20-25. My card is not overclocked.

I'm in the same boat with ya... The game footages look AMAZING, with all the crashes... But I guess I already got most out of the game since the cars always oversteer and crash....

You should try reading this thread for cornering:
    http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=279499

I suggest using the tap method again. BenLeonHeart described it pretty well. If it didn't make sense...when you reach a corner slow down and try tapping the left/right buttons every .5 seconds. Then adjust accordingly as you learn each corner. There is no possible way to oversteer unless you HOLD down the turn buttons instead of tap. In fact, you should understeer the first few times you try this.

Tapping works for keyboard or the d-pad on a gamepad. Using the analog stick on a gamepad definitely gets my car spinning into all kinds of craziness.

I play with a pad, and I found that keeping the accelerator trigger slightly pressed put the car in a slight oversteer allowing me the clear the turn nicely.

it took me around 15 mins to get used to the controls. you have to really play around with the steering settings. I am using keyboard and prefer it over pad or steering wheel.

Here is a video, I posted in my other thread, but here it is anyways.

I played the Demo on my Laptop & Desktop using keys without any problem (tap tap tap, tap tap tap), but since bought it for the 360, and play using the wireless wheel - Fantastic.

AmazingGracePlayer - Could it be that you've got all driving aids off ? - This is how I play the game using a wheel, but I can't see how it would be physically possible to drive the open wheeler, or some high powered muscle cars with a two-state digital accelerator and brake !!

One thing I noticed: I usually never let off the accelerator unless I'm braking, but in this game its impossible to do that without oversteering. Maybe you might have the same habit as I do?
