I play it on my desktop with a Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience wheel. Game is just too tough for me. I never conquered the race in the California mtns until I put it into very easy difficulty, and I still came in 3rd place. I guess I just suck at very quick reflexes racing games, but its the drift in my car that gets me to crashing. Maybe drift can be controlled by letting off the accelerator into corners, but if you touch the brake or handbrake do you skid more?

So I guess my best driving game is just Euro Truck Simulator 2. I'm having no problem with Driver San Francisco and I haven't touched my Need for Speed games on Origin.

This guy makes the game look easy:

How about you? Do you find Grid 2 a tough game?

I bought it Steam sale for $12.59 + more for all the DLC.

I played the demo with Xbox360 controller and it seemed fairly arcadey and forgiving... But then again I come from the Shift series which are a more demanding. That's probably why I didn't like GRID 2 so much. When they took out cockpit view I pretty much decided I will never buy it.

If you like simulations, try Assetto Corsa. The tracks are all laser scanned and the developers actually go out and drive the cars that are in the game to collect data. It's awesome.

I'm waiting for Assetto Corsa to drop to a $12 game. I waited so long for Test Drive Ferrari to go on sale. It never went on sale at Steam ever but amazon had a Steam code for $7.49. Then when I play the game it sucks big time, like too much rear end skidding on the cars. And if you run off the track into the grass that's the end of your race - disqualified. Too hard and it sucks and not much gameply to go further when you can't even conquer the current challenge race, - just like Grid 2.

So Test Drive Ferrari and Grid 2 were big game disappointments to me. But they both had great graphics.

How do you guys play racing games on laptops? What is your controller?

I need a racing game where I can progress to further races even though I don't take 3rd place.

I play all of my racing games with a wireless 360 controller whether it's on my laptop or desktop. Cockpit view is an absolute must for me to even consider a racing game. Both Assetto Corsa and Project Cars have my eye, but I'm waiting for them to release before getting too excited. I'm fed up with microtransactions and won't give either of them my money until I know they won't incorporate them.

I got Test Drive Ferrari last steam sale for 4.99. It did go on sale but it wasn't promoted on the front page. Brilliant game though. Awesome engine.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is a good game with some major annoyances. The driving engine is pretty unsatisfying in my opinion.

Suggest someone who even has trouble playing Grid 2 to try AC is very bad idea if you ask me.

TDU2 was just like TDU1 with new content and eye candy back in the preview. Then the update happened.

I agree. They are very different beasts. AC is one of the most challenging sims out there.

Does AC have a lot of drifting / skidding? That the big part that gives me trouble. My rear end goes under and I crash a lot. I need more traction in the rear but you have no choice on that with the vehicles they give you. Mastering corners and controlled skids is the key, but it seem tapping the brake or handbrake doens't help. All I can do is let off the accelerator and coast through the turn.

If AC is another Grid 2 then I'll only buy it as a $12 game.

if your having trouble with Grid2 machanics I wouldn't recommend AC. They are a little apples vs oranges to compare but AC is a extremely unforgiving sim unless you want to play with a ton of handicaps on.
