Well, I'm still on the first race. the problem I have is that the steering is way too sensitive. My steering sensitivity is turned to lowest in the options menu, but it still turns like 45 degrees when I just tap a directional button. Any ideas how to fix this?

yeah i dealt with this for like forever.

there is something called steering linearity or something like that. its on 3. try turning it up to 10. put the sensitivity back to default.

before i did this i was oversteering both ways and i couldn't even finish a race above 50 mph without crashing.

its STILL insanely hard, but at least now i have a fighting chance of at least FINISHING at somewhere near top speed.

    Yush, this is extremely annoying...

try using a gamepad or joystick...
( i dnot have one, so i guess it must be better :p)

Just fiddle with the steering saturation. That is the most important setting to adjust. You can just try it during a race, and keep pausing and unpausing while you tweak it.

In my Momo force feedback wheel, I use 0% deadzone and near 100% linearity, and I set up the wheel for a strong centering spring.

I'm more bothered by the lack of forcefeedback bug with Logitech wheels. Codemasters promised to right this in the upcoming patch.

I enjoyed the demo on my Laptop, using Keys, so much so I bought it for the Xbox360, along with the wireless wheel, on launch day. I didn't really have a problem using the keys, but using the wheel makes the game really come alive. Just as I'm sure it would if you bought a forcefeedback wheel for the PC version. (Had to get that in to prevent yet another PC v 360 slanging match :D )

I'd consider a wheel, but GRID would be the only racing game I have...so it's not worth it for me.
However , when I tried an xbox360 wheel, hmm, the feeling was awesome...

With a gamepad, do you guys drive with the analog stick or the d-pad? I was watching IGN's Editor vs Codemasters battle and I was shocked that most of them were using the analog stick!

I get that the analog stick kind of resembles the free movement of wheel but it lacks precision.

I pre the d-pad and because of that I'm a pretty decent keyboard racer too.

imo, the analog stick is the only way to get precision. they dpad and keyboard is either 100% on or 100% off. its like a switch.

the analog stick has a range of motion, so you can hold at 70% if you want to, or slowly go from 0% to 100% without jerking the wheel.

its important for both the wheel and the pedals. personally can't drive without analog control. would prefer a wheel and pedals, but this will get me by for now.

I'd say Analogue stick is better then keys, although when I tried the demo on my 360 (before I bought the wheel) what I often found myself doing when exiting tight bends was to series of filcks in one direction, and then in the other direction until I straightened the thing up, not helped by the fact that the accelerator was hard to precisely regulate despite this also being analogue. With the wheel/pedals, oversteer can be corrected perfectly with a well-balanced throttle, and precise wheel control (and a grin from ear to ear :D ) In fact, I find the full-travel analogue accelerator pedal just as significant an improvement as the steering, especially with the higher performance vehicles when all driver aids are turned off.

Despite it being criticised by some for not being a "True Simulator", With the wheel/pedals, the open top formula1000 thing is the best raw driving experince I've had on a game. All inputs (steeing, brake, and accelerator) are instantaneously responsive, as is the steering feedback, and the view where you can see your forearms gives you a great perspective on the action. It's made even more fun switching off the driver aids. You can then instigate a power slide in second with just a little steering angle on, keep it nailed, and keep the slide going whilst changing up to third, and nailing it again, winding a little more opposite lock on as the slide continues at higher speed, until you start gaining friction again, when you wind the lock off with a huge grin whilst keeping it nailed. Especially good fun after a sharp right hander.

Yea, I get that alot :D

No, this time I`m serious, the wheel has an awesome feeling, and it's much better for handling than anything else.

I`m just not sure I can justify to myself getting a wheel for a single game.Yet...

I got the 360 wireless wheel just for grid, and feel it was worth every penny. I'd always dismissed steering wheels for games as a bit of a gimmick, but on Grid launch day, I had been so impressed with the demo, I thought "What the Hell !". Now I'll never play any driving game on the 360 without it. The difference is that although you can enjoy the game with a joypad/Keys, it doesn't really feel like a driving experience when compared with the wheel. It opens whole new aspects of the game and characteristics of the individual cars that you can really relate to.

I don't have the full version of the game, but I reckon a restart would pretty much end the progress right there..
I recommend practicing before going ingo the carrier mode... :)
    Good Luck.

Yes, you can restart the race in Grid World. Unless you are in Pro Mode, if I'm not mistaken.

BTW, 1.1 patch restored the force feedback to my Momo wheel. Now the game is really great. :)

I understand the situation, but the problem is the game's driving physics. They have been horrible in Dirt, and they are just as bad in Grid. I don't think that it's worth going through all the trouble to get the game to work at a playable level.

It is nicer to use a wheel or joystick rather than a keyboard, but it does not help with this game. My suggestion is to just pray that someone actually releases a good race in the near future.
