Gsync flickering/black screen fix

Gsync fix Miniguide

After much issues i had lately to get Gsync working it looks like i found a way to fix it somehow besides deactivating it. I thought it deserves a own thread just to be more viewable for most users.
The fix is quite simple but i don't fully understand yet why it works that way.

So if anybody knows a way what .dll versions the drivers are using please let me know

And i don't know if it works for other Notebooks like the P870DMx, P7xxDMx or even other manifacturers like AW, Asus, MSI etc. but i wanted to share it anyway.

As you may know or not know, since some driver versions Gsync broke on my P775DM3-G which caused black screen flickering on loading screens or sudden low fps situations, e.g. in World of Warcraft when getting to the character selection screen, loading screen, opening Inventory or Map and even in Overwatch but not as severe but still noticable. I was even able to force the issue via capping the max FPS to "40" which caused in heavy flickering, "30-32" FPS cap forced a almost 100% black screen.

My system is using the following in short, if you don't see my signature:

Clevo P775DM3-G
2x8GB Gskill DDR 3000
i7 6700k
Geforce 1070
Windows 10 x64 Enterprise LTSB build 14393.1198
AUO B173QTN01.0 AUO 1096 WQHD (2560x1440 120Hz)

What you have to do to fix it is following:

TL;DR dirty Version: install the last driver Gsync didn't flicker with > update to latest driver via using setup.exe but don't check "clean install", Gsync should work now without blackscreen/flickering.

1. first uninstall the current driver you are using via DDU just to be sure there are no traces DDU UNINSTALL GUIDE big thanks to reddit user /u/GhostMotley
2. then download and install the last driver normally via setup where Gsync was good and working. Could be varying from NB to NB which driver it is (this is just guesswork from me but using 375.63 as a base in my case was the last driver Gsync worked without any issues even < 30fps with no flickering, blackscreen flickering etc + brightness)
3. after you installed the older working driver just to be sure doublecheck the driver version via nV control panel or nV Inspector
4. next step is to download the latest driver or the driver you want (like 382.53) and extract it via using the .exe, DON'T INSTALL THEM, most of the time the extracted files are under "C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\<DRIVERVERSION>" unless specified otherwise
5. next thing we have to do is to go into the device manager (Geräte Manager on my german client), easy found via search function or Win+X key combination
6. search for your graphics card, in my case NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 and double click it, in the following window just go to the drivers (Treiber) tab and select the second option "Update driver..." (Treiber aktualisieren...)
7. in the following window which pops up choose the second option "browse my computer for driver software" (Auf dem Computer nach Treibersoftware suchen.) and press the second button "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" (Aus einer Liste von Gerätetreibern auf dem Computer auswählen).
8. after that window,one of the last windows i promise , choose "have disk..." (Datenträger...) and click "Browse..." (Durchsuchen...).
9. navigate to your extracted driver and open the folder like in the example "C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\382.53\Win10_64\International\Display.Driver\" and choose the corresponding .inf file for your device. for Clevo notebooks it's nvcvi.inf.
10. if windows finds a compatible driver it should already be preselected in the following window. Just select "next" (Weiter) and let the driver install manually, it could take a while.
11. after installation doublecheck the version of the driver and if everything is up to date, restart the machine.

Now everything should work at least for me it does via that way. My current best guess is that i still use some old .dlls somewhere and the installation via device manager overwrite some of these but kept some still intact and that it's how the magic works. And yeah i tried several times to report the issue to nVidia but it never get's through somehow, everytime i get "connection timeout" or "access denied" errors

The mini-guide isn't completely finished and i will add some things that may be interesting etc., but right now this is just a quick start guide somehow, I REALLY HOPE it works for you too guys/girls.

Edit2: upgraded from the previous fixed 382.53 to 384.80 using the normal method via setup.exe using the " custom" install method BUT without checking the "Reinstall" checkbox.
Edit3: upgraded from 375.63 to 385.12 with "custom" install method without checking the "Reinstall" checkbox like below, Gsync still works (easier working method since 384.xx).

tests showed that Gsync still works that way, tried DDU to 384.80 (completely fresh) Gsync was still broken.

excellent to hear it works for you guys will wait for the new drivers and try installing them via setup -fresh install button, and hope nV doesn't cripple anything else.

de:Um's so simpel wie möglich auszudrücken, lad dir den Treiber runter wo Gsync bei dir noch fehlerfrei und ohne Probleme funktioniert, bei mir war das 375.63 und anschließend den aktuellsten oder bzw. den den du nutzen möchtest und lässt einfach bei der Installation des neuen Treibers das Häkchen weg "Neuinstallation vornehmen".

 

I am sorry, cause I didn't notice the proof video. I just updated my driver to 388.13 by using button "Express installation", works fine.
P.S. I do not know even english well.

 

Offtop: by the way, Scerate, what is your power supply? Cause I am interested in shuntmodding, and my one is 230W.
I have gtx 1070, 6700K. Is it enough, or stronger one is needed?

 

en:Using the 330W stock one which was provided with my P775DM3, you only got 230W? that's weird imho. Have actually 2 of them, bought 1 for my previous P771DM to OC bit more.
de: Nutze das standard beigelegte 330W von meinem P775DM3, finde es jedoch sehr komisch das bei dir ein 230W dabei ist. Habe jedoch 2 von diesen Netzteilen, hatte damals für mein altes P771DM das stärkere geholt um mehr OC rauszuholen.

 

I understood at least, why the brick overheats and switches down itself from time to time (once a month)...
Do anybody has any ideas how to buy a cheap 330W or exchange my 230W to 330W ? I live in Canada now.
