I have an Alienware m15x from winter 2010 and a month ago decided to switch my old gpu from Ati mobility 5850 to gtx 460m because I needed some cuda support for my editing programs. I also do play BF3 and some other games.

I noticed that the card I have has stock clocks at 570 mhz and memory clock at 1140, other places as well as nvidia's site says its at 675/1250

It seems my version which apparently is from dell is underclocked or some other thing that i dont understand.

Im concerned if its safe to overclock it to Nivdia stock clocks or any other solutions?

Any info on the matter would be appreciated.

slowly increase the core clock and memory clock, by 20-25ish and see if your temps are ok, if they are below 80C then you can do it, otherwise who knows, every card is different, every cooling solution is different, never heard of a 460m in m15x before :)

I'm running 800mhz core and 1580mhz memory on my Asus. Some cards can even do 850/1650. Don't know about the Dell version, but you should have plenty of headroom. :)

Ah yea, I just overclocked to Nvidia stock clocks and Im getting temps of 62-65 on most games and BF3 sometimes 69-70 after 2-3 hrs, but it cools down real quick.

    Idle temps at 40-43

go upto 750 (again slowly) and see your temps, if it is ok then try 800. I had 460m and I was using it with 750 core clock

yeah people did a ton of OC for 460m, but mine was seeing 85ish temps as soon as I raised above 750 core..
