    GTX 560M 1.5GB GDDR5

    Radeon HD 6990M 2GB GDDR5

I've come down to these last two options for my laptop..I know the 6990m is the new FOTM card, everyone loves it and its proving to be a great card..However it is another $245 over the 560m

For those of you that have the 560m..do you wish you upgraded to the 6990m?(I understand it wasn't released when some of you had purchased your 560m's)

How much 'better' is the 6990m, I know there are some amazing new cards coming out next year and obviously even better ones to come..but is getting the 6990m worth it now?

This is all related to gaming.

    Thanks for Your Opinions

Do I regret it? Well mostly I could not afford it but not really. Then again I plan on doing some crazy stuff with the new cards so this is good enough for now.

It all depends on how long you expect the machine to stay relevant.

Well the 6990 would leave the 560 in the dust, but if price is an issue or you don't expect to keep it more than 2 years then the 560 should do you fine. The 6990 is having some heat issues at the moment too.

Ya I know the 6990 has its heating issues and unfortunately it's looking like the 204 heatsinks is having similar temps as the 203. Sporadically people are having issues with the heat it seems.

I'm just curious if the 560m is going to have issues playing BF3 or GW2 for example. I've got a capable desktop, but when I'm out and wanting to pop online for a while I'd like to have a decent laptop to do so.

    Thanks

It'll probably still run BF3 on medium/high settings. It'll play guild wars 2 with ease. I went for the 6990M because I don't plan on ever upgrading my laptop so I need it too last as long as possible.

medium probably, but I highly doubt the 560M will be able to do a mix of med/high for BF3.

You can't compare the 560M and a 6990M, they aren't even close to the same level. It's like bringing a BMW M3 to a Ferrari race.

Also what laptop are you referring to? Alienware M17x R3?

probably the p150hm, as the upgrade from a 560m to a 6990m is 245 on the clevo.

Nail on the head, probably going with the HM1 with an upgraded PSu to save a few bucks..but thanks for your replies.

I'll probably shell out the extra money for the 6990m

    Blast!
