How much better is the GTX 485M?

Worth $400 for the 485M? How well can it do with games like Crysis 2, Final Fantasy XIV Online, Dirt 3, etc?

Well, I was looking at xoticpc's MSI GT780R and it only comes with the 560M gpu.

At this point, I'm going to decide between either the NP8150 with a 485M gpu or the GT780R with the 560M gpu. I was just wondering if the 485M is significantly better than the 560M to the point where I'd disregard the GT780R pluses like the audio, bigger screen, and keyboard.

    Oh well, shoot.
Yes the 485M is a lot better than 560M. But you can still play almost all games on the highest settings with the 560M, so it is not a weak GPU. You have to ask yourself if you need something as powerful as the 485M.

I too will buy the MSI laptop, but if I were you I`d wait until GT780DXR arrives. It will be out sometime in August and will feature the GTX 570M, a much better GPU than 560M. But like I said, you have to consider what you need. :)

Well, what about the games in my first post? Will a 560M do well with those? And if I need some future proofing, is the 485M the way to go?

With the GT780R, could I buy it and self upgrade to the 570M on my own? Is it possible?

I don't NEED to max out all games. But it'd be nice too if the price is right. =)

Games look fantastic even if you play on High as opposed to max, right?

Also, it's better to play a game at 60 FPS in High settings than at Ultra settings but 25-30 FPS, right?

Don't look at the first number, look at the last 2 numbers.

    It's not 5 vs 4, it's 60 vs 85

    Eh thats a loose interpretation.

The 485m compared to the 580m looses hands down, but 85>80

I know. It's not a scientific approach and I knew someone was going to bring it up.

But for a guesstimate, it serves its purpose.

485m is world apart better than the 560m.

I consider 560m a mid range gpu as of right now.

I see. So then I guess I'm not so interested in the MSI anymore since it doesn't have the 485M or 508M as an option.

But the audio and keyboard on the MSI seem so enticing! Any chance we can upgrade it on our own? The MSI motherboard should support a 485M, right?

The 485M is 40 to 50 percent faster. It really is in a completely different tier of performance.

If you wait, there is a new Msi that has the 570m which is a notch below the 485m but you get the MSI!!! It call the MSI GT780DXR and it will come out in August!
