Hello again everyone. I'm still trying to figure out which laptop to get. I was heavily leaning on the np9150, but now I'm kinda aiming for the gt60 (I feel it has more to it that the np9150 for less). I would like to know if the gtx670m/gtx675m can play mmos and RPGs on high. I'm only going to use the laptop for a year before selling it, so the gtx680m is a little expensive for how long I'm going to keep this machine. So, can these graphics cards maintain high graphics and fps? Thanks for your comments.

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

here are some frame rates on popular games for the 675. I would say its not bad, and since u only need it for a year, i think its enough for what you need it for. i feel 680 is over priced

The 670M will easily last a year, though I question its resale value in mid to late 2013.

@Silverfern thanks for the suggestion! The 675m does look like it will cover my needs.

@Kevin yeah thats what I've been thinking! That's the only reason I looked at the 680m, because I know I'll be able to resell it. I might do the 675m, but I'm not sure how that will be resold either. The 66m looks good because it's new tech, but I want to play games on high and do programming stuff.

The difference in purchasing cost for the two GPUs will have a similar ratio to the resale costs. So if you are going to sell it in a year, the 675m is obviously a better choice.

I have a 675, it plays everything I've tried fantastically. Some very new games I have to tone down just a tad like ubersampling on witcher 2 or cranking up arkham city or crysis 2 to their absolute highest. They still look great a notch or two down on a couple settings. I play everything at 1080p.

Thanks for your input guys! Will the gtx675m be able to handle emulators and mods too?

Just another question guys. Does the 675m get exceptionally hot just because it's older tech? And when doing menial computing task and projects, I shouldn't encounter loud fan noise?

GTX675M is about 76~84C depending on the games you play, a badly done paste job can result in hitting 91C. But it shouldn't go pass 91C because that is when the Turbo fan kicks in.

In Furmark it'll be hitting 88~91C even with good paste job and low ambient temp (15C) like the HD6990, so don't get bothered with it, healthier for your card to not run Furmark too.

For tasks outside gaming I usually have the GPU fan turn off and have only the CPU fan spinning, it's kinda quiet. By the way, above is only for the NP9150 (P150EM).

I had a look at the comparison on notebookcheck, and I have a couple of questions.

How much are the FPS affected by the resolution, such as the change there from 1366x768 to 1920x1080?

I have heard that they test the cards straight out of the box, can I expect much improvement on those figures for the 675m?

    Thanks

i think performance would increase a lot if you decrease resolution to 1366*768, because thats cutting the resoultion by half, thus frame rates should double

Depends on the game and the memory bandwidth you have, some can increase up to 80% more FPS, some only 20%.

If the game isn't heavily relying on the CPU and relies on the GPU a lot, then you'll get huge FPS gain if you decrease the resolution.

Not necessarily. As mentioned, it depends on the game. You will rarely find frame rates doubling when going from 1080 to 768p.

There is not a currently released game that the 675M cannot handle at 1080p with at least good detail. Most can be cranked to full.

This sounds all too familiar. LOL. nissangtr-numbers, anyone?

Anyways, the 660m can be OC'ed to near a stock 670m performance. However, the 670m has very good OC potential as well so you can get the 670m fairly close to 675m performance. Like it has been said SEVERAL times before, performance per watt is a completely meaningless number if one is talking about gaming. One kWh of electricity costs a few cents. Even in Europe where everything is so much more expensive, you would need to game continuously for a a whole day continuously for you to pay a few cents extra.

    OP, it goes 680m < 7970m (but only slightly) < 675m (massive gap here) < 670m < 660m, IMO. But that's just me.

Bah, it kinda sucks that a 680M stock clock with stock 302.77 driver is handling the Witcher 2 the exact same way a 675M does.. If I enable ubersampling in this game I get a pretty powerpoint slideshow.

    I love my G75 with 670.I have max 66-68C in games.Furmark is 75C max.
All games at max or a bit less.BF3 on high or ultra without AA all time over 30fps.
Witcher 2 on medium but still look fantastic.I love it.

Glad you like the G75, myself I own a G73JW but I'll never go for ASUS laptops again. The dGPU they choosed to put in is just simply never going to be high-end dGPU. And the warranty sticker on the CPU heatsink first screw is also why I'll never go for ASUS again.

Ubersampling is pretty much a waste.

True. So does most of the AA/AF and other graphical settings beyond a certain threshold.

That's not the point, though. The 680M should be 60-80% faster (and costs as much), yet still gets bogged down due to the similar configurations, which is a bit disappointing.
