Just curious, but what do you guys know about the GTX560?
I ordered a new XPS 17, but after a little more consideration, I am thinking maybe I should of help off and looked around a little more.
The laptop I am now considering is the GT683R mainly because it is a more powerful system with the exception of the processor I selected in my dell and also because it is over a hundred bucks cheaper.
Newegg.com - MSI GT683R-242US Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 15.6" 12GB Memory 1TB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M
I'm mainly wanting to know if anyone has had anyone experience with the GTX560 and what to expect in terms of performance?
The dell I have ordered is in my sig.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
GTX 560M is on par with the older 480M although you know this notebook is 15.6" vs your XPS 17 is 17.3". The 460M/560M utterly annihilates the GT555M, it's a turkey shoot.
-
I just want something that will perform well in gaming until I build a desktop in the next year.. -
The 560M is just an OC'd 460M. Not anywhere near 480M performance? 555M does get murdered, alot due to the GDDR5.
-
So basically, the 560 would outperform the 555M and it would be a noticeable? What do you think between the link to the msi at the top of this thread and the XPS in my sig?
I've narrowed it down to this. The only thing the XPS has is a quicker processor. The MSI has Raid 0, 4GB more of ram and the 560 but a slower processor. I dont think the slower speed matters though because of the capability of OC'ing the MSI. -
It would be quite noticeable, especially at 1080p. Also, the CPU is only 200MHz slower, and the GPU is not going to be bottlenecked by that CPU, at all.

The 480M has 100 more shaders? Benchmarks put it 15% ahead, at least in games. Not so much in 3DMark.
-
480m is based on older architecture, and it was based off the desktop 465, with was a fantastic failure.
I don't know how the 560m stacks up, but I would say it is closer to 470m performance.
560m would give you probably 30-40% easy over the 555gt -
True, the architechture difference could be significant. Benchmarks show its not muxh faster than 460M, though.

With price taken into consideration, which one would you guys choose? -

I would say NP8130 or the NP8150 with the 6970m upgrade
however the price on the g53 is quite good -
Out of those three, the G53, but second the Sager. You can pick up an 8150 w/6970 for ~$1500. Well worth the extra. 6970 PUMMELS everything but the 485M.
-
If I had the money and was able to just take it out of checking, I would. If I could finance the sager I would totally go for it. I just can't right now and I'm too impatient to wait. What ever I get is getting paid off in 2 or 3 months. I have put off buying a new laptop for too long and now I can't wait any longer. My Gateway is limping its way to its grave.
-
Then pick up a 560M laptop. If your used to an 8800M GTS, it'll be a breath of fresh air.
-
Although the NP8130 comes with a much better screen for ~ $1200. -
It's an easy 50% over the 555M. Different tiers are in play.
I'd take the $1150 G53 w/ 2630QM and 460M. -
BTW, G53SW-XN1 for $1099 shipped from Newegg...

GTX 460m

If you look at the 555m at Notebookcheck at the bottom you can expand the game performance comparison with other video cards using the same benchmark.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-555M.41933.0.html
Bad Company 2 for example at "High" = 1366x768 HBAO On 4xAA, 460m has 43% better performance.
Crysis 2 shows 460m @ 36% higher and 560m @ 49% higher.
Dirt 2 460m @ 49% higher -
That MSI you linked priced @ 1499$ is a rip off.
You can get a Sager NP8130 from GenTechPC with a 560 and 1080 matte screen (which is substantially better when in contact with lighting/outside) for 1300$ shipped (price is including W7 OS).
With the MSI 1499$ price-tag, an M17X-R3 is a much better buy IMO -
I agree, $1500 for a 15" MSI is a bit high; about the same price as a 17"-18" alternative.
-
Could the 555M manage the game nearly as well, at 1080p? This is the crux of the comparison. To properly compare GPUs, you need to run at GPU bound resolutions, and you're dissecting the GPUs in the wrong direction.
It's not about how the 460M does at 1366x768, it's about how the 555M does at 1920x1080. At such a high resolution, the gap in performance widens immensely. -
-
The 460m is the same tech as the 555m, (GF106) but has 33% more shaders which are clocked 15% higher by default.
If both are using 192-bit GDDR5 AND you somehow OC the 555 shaders as high as the 460m's the 460m should still be 33% faster due to more shaders.
The 560m is basically a newer-tech OC'd 460m. (as long as you get the 192-bit memory one) which should be 10-15% better than the 460m.
Anything else is just a bad comparison or results fudging. -

Too many posts have been deleted, so I think we are done here.
OP,
If you have more questions, make a new thread.
