This is a guide for the budget gamers that has notebooks with AMD Ryzen 2200U/2500U/2700U or 3200U/3500U/3700U.
Here are some advice:
1. To ensure best performance, use dual-channel ram ram/2 sticks. In general, gamingperformance is 20-50% better with dual channel. Max supported speed is 2400MHz, if you buy 2 new modules I would consider HyperX Impact as they are 2400MHz with cl14-14-14. In general most ram shipped with Ryzen U are 2400MHz at cl17-17-17 which is a few percents slower in games.
2. Update to latest AMD GPU-drivers and chipsetdrivers.
3. In general setting a max CPU-frequency of 50-75% improves framerates a lot since reducing powerbudget to CPU gives GPU more headroom. A quick comparison on my Acer Swift 3 in Rise of the tomb raider:
Stock: GPU 750-900MHz avg 37.5fps at 720p/low/medium
CPU at 60% max: GPU at 900-1000MHz avg 42fps.
4. Consider downloading Ryzen controller, it can improve performance a lot if used correctly. There are 2 settings: How many Watts and Amp your notebook can use. I increased my stock 25W 30A to 30W 55A and ROTTR with CPU at 60% went up to 43.5fps, GPU at 1000-1100MHz.
5. Change your cooling paste. I repasted with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and temps during gaming is 5-10C lower than with stock paste. If using Ryzen controller this is important as lowering temps can make you able to run at higher Watts/amps.
6. Use freesync if you can. In general almost no Ryzen U-notebooks has freesync officially, but several IPS-panels actually suppirt it, but it is dusabled by software. On my Acer Swift 3 2700U I downloaded CRU and added a freesyncrange of 40-60Hz, it automaticly enabled freesync in radeon settings and works perfectly. There seems to be LFC aswell as there is no tearing below 40fps, but a bit stuttering due to doubøe render of frames. Many games feel much smoother at low fps with freesync due to no tearing and little to no stuttering. If ypu have a IPS-panel it works on many Models.
7. Consider using 960x540 resolution if 1280x720 is to hard as it is exactly half of 1920x1080, it looks sharper than 1024x768 atleadt on my pc due to perfect fit without stretching and gives a bit better performance than 1024x768.
After these tweaks I run the following games at:
- Witcher 3 35-60fps at 960x540@low/medium
- Fallen order 30-60fps at 960x540@low/medium (edited gamefiles)
- Rage 2 35-60fps at 720p 75%res scale low/medium
- ROTTR 35-60fps at 720p low/medium.
- The Outer worlds at 30-60fps 720p at 75% res scale lowest.
- Cinebench R15 with CPU at 100% gives a single core score of 146 and MC of 613 with temps at 80C limit and stock 25W tdp. 3200MHz all core turbo is active half of the test, the settles around 2500MHz avg rest of test. It seems there is no problem running 3200MHz all core within tdp, but thermalsystem is overloaded.

Thanks I just stumbled on this excellent guide, some great tips!! I have a 2500u Ryzen. I am interested in the Ryzen Controller but think should repaste as you said before using that software as it will inevitably introduce haet to the system.
I have a question about point 3. How do you change the CPU frequency?
