I notice that no one has made a thread on this particular game which in my opinion is clearly the best game of the year. Both Skyrim and Battlefield 3 will be great game in their own right but Guild Wars 2 will change the way we play mmorpg so in that way it will be one of those few games that can be call a "revolution" instead of just simply an evolution.
If there is one game to get, whether you like rpg or not, it this game. I'm going to go as far as to say this is going to be the game of the decade. I don't see any game for PC only on the horizon that can top it unless maybe World of Warcraft II.
What makes this game so unique is it deep story and rich and immersive world. I remember being so excited just by reading the lore of Guild Wars in the manual and all the place that you would imagine a fantasy setting to look like. Yes it missing mounts and some other stuff, but if your looking for great gameplay and drop dead graphics, look no place else.
Did I mention there is underwater combat as well? I feel like a lot of people will hop up on the PVP world vs world combat before even bothering with the PVE which I don't really understand why but it speak volume at how amazing Arena Net has perfected both type of landscape. If you ever play League of Legend, you would know how addicting that game is, but it still nothing compare to how fun Guild Wars 2 PVP will be.
Of course there is no beta, demo, or any sort of gameplay so this is all speculation, but knowing that this is the biggest Arena Net project to date and how big of an expectation it is, there is very few reasons to fear that something will go wrong. This is no WOW clone like Warhammer, LOTR, Age of Conan, Aion, Rift, etc... This game is a real IP that can go head to head with WoW because it has an original story and setting, and really suck you in until the very end.
I can't wait for this game, and I would like to let more people know about it in case you haven't heard about it. This game alone make a laptop purchase worth while cause you don't want to go long without playing it!

I already pre-ordered and anxiously waiting for a sign of a beta. It is mostly likely going to be a 2012 release in order to stay competitive with The Old Republic as BioWare announced TOR is going to be a 2012 release.

I played the hell out of GW, but I don't think I'll be playing the second one if it's anything like the first.
Everything I liked about GW was in turn a reason why i eventually stopped playing it. I liked how the pvp was completely balanced and everyone had the same gear and skills to choose from, but I eventually craved reward for all my hard work and wanted uber gear to slaughter other people with.
Initially I also liked how all the zones were instanced and I could use heroes and henchmen if there weren't players around. This however, meant there was no world pvp, which is a big no-no in my book. Also, it seemed like whenever I did group with someone they either had no idea to play with another person or were completely incompetent. -
Lol. I actually ordered a new laptop with anticipation of the game and I wanted to make sure I would be able to play it. I'm not sure if it's going to be a game to reign over a decade, but I'm sure it'll be close. If anything I'm still impressed that people are still playing the first one and that there's even a live team still around. The amount of the content in GW1 is overwhelming, or at least for a F2P game, and the play system in completely unique to anything I have played to date. Though, from trailers and game-play videos I'm sure the sequel won't lack any new content and fans will have their anticipation met with equal mind-blowing systematic. For the amount of time this game has been being developed and the basis of the first one, I'll safely assume that this isn't being anything short of unique and spectacular.
-
Lighten me up pls, this is similar to dota but you control your character like in WoW? There is only pvp? Cause it sounds pretty cool. I am playing dota on TFT since 3 years and I'm pretty good it, would like to try this out. I never even played GW1.

-
Ugh. My head hurts now. Seriously...
Please read up on the game before saying stuff that ain't truth. -

Guild Wars 2 Manifesto Trailer [HD]‏ - YouTube
How could you make a Guild Wars 2 post and not link the Manifesto video?
I wish I could share your confidence, but I've been burnt by MMOs in the past, looking at you Aion... I still can't wait for it, I don't think any game comes close to how much time I put inton the original Guild Wars, I still play it every now and then after 4 years, trying to get my 50 reward points.
It's funny you talk almost exclusively of pvp when its been the thing they've said least about, and skip over the personal storyline and dynamic event system, the two things I'm looking forward to the most. I was never a big pvp guy in Guild Wars, only a little Jade Quarry or Alliance Battles every now and then.
Anyone interested should really check out their website, they've got a lot of information posted on it.
Guild Wars 2
If this game turns out as good as I hope/expect it's going to be, It's definitely going to be a game changer.
Guild Wars 2 Preview Special - The MMO Report - G4tv.com
Another good video with Casey Schreiner from the MMO report. -
The first GW was my first "real game". It got me into playing games on the PC, on the internet, and waiting for more. I played so much of it for a year (around 2006) before leaving it in the dust exploring new games. Now that there is a new "version" of it that expands the MMO genre and brings something new to the table, while looking fantastic, i'm definitely hopping on the GW2 hypetrain!
I've always played MMOs but never really stuck because they all had the same mechanics and it felt like I was just playing the same game with a different look. It SEEMS like it is not the case for GW2. I will buy this game and review it. Hopefully, I will enjoy it and so will my friends, if not I'm sure I will find people online to play with, and pursue the world as a team. Maybe I could team up with some NBR people? Who knows!
Now it's time to share a video that got me excited for the release, and a channel to subscribe to for news/gameplay videos.

Yep the first GW was more or less my introduction to real mmo's, before that it was those 2d korean/jp based ones (oh god who remembers maplestory). I liked it because it had pathetically low system requirements and no monthly fees, but eventually outgrew it because I got stuck in a place where I wasn't online enough or good enough to compete in hardcore pvp tournys, but was too good for most standard guild vs guild, and there was no pve left to do (no I don't feel like running guildies thru droknars for the 50th time).
Then I moved to WoW and it took 4 years to quit that, I'm not entirely sure I want to step back into the mmo world... we'll see. -
Looks exactly the same as any other "WoW clone" MMO but with nicer world pvp.
I mean, reading your post, I HAVE to think you are on their PR team or something, lul. -
I'm very excited to delve 250 years into the future where Guild Wars 2 will take place. Everything excites me, playing the new races, the new classes, the fantastic scenery (Have you seen what they did with Lions Arch!?) I am predicting an early 2012 release however as it seems to be very unlikely that the game would be released in 2011 seeing how not even a beta has been publicly announced.
-
im also waiting for this game. i bought the trilogy and eotn from steam summer sale. im playing a warrior in gw1 and im trying my best to fill the HoM with all the titles and gears that i could get so i can get special gear and prestige for gw2.
the story is really great. i really love how they made the missions and the world is huge. for those who want to play gw2 but haven't played gw1 i suggest you start in gw1 first. its still on sale in d2d for $20 for the trilogy. im not sure if eye of the north is on sale though. -
GW1 is a love it or hate it thing (I liked it). However, GW2 will be very different and I'm looking forward it to it big time.

OMG! So excited that someone opened a Guild Wars related post!
"My first" MMO was also Guild Wars. I had 2000+ of play hours in it (both PvE and PvP) and really the best hours I could invest in a game/MMO. The reason I say this is because it was all about the community and people I met during play time and Guild vs Guild battles.
Managed to get to rank 62 worldwide in GvG battles with my guild while also winning some epic Hall of Heroes matches!
PvE wise it was and I believe it still is one of the best MMO's out there that actually have a solid interactive and dynamic storyline that the game is built upon.
Guild Wars 2 is going to be a REAL sequel!
How awesome of ArenaNet to "honor" the players who played Guild Wars 1 with their Hall of Monuments while at the same time avoiding "discrimination" against the new future players. It will reinvent the genre while remaining true to the universal core mechanics that people love. Persistent world, World PvP, different playable races, next gen MMO graphics are the standard. But, content scaling, dynamic event systems, dynamic combat based on player decision weather to block or dodge are the next big thing many people are craving for lately when searching through the enormous pile of MMOs.
Having no subscription fees for such a massive game is another hit! ArenaNet could easily charge a fee for this game considering the effort and time they invested to truly innovate.
Oh, almost forgot... I recently participated in their "Become a Guild Wars 2 Ambassador" contest. Unfortunately, I did not win, but it was a great experience! Before you check it out turn your volume up a bit/put headphones on cuz the sound is quite bad. (I'm not good with sound
, but will improve) Link here: Guild Wars 2: "Become a Guild Wars 2 Ambassador" Video Contest - "Too much to handle"‏ - YouTube
Hope this will get a solid idea of the game for those interested!
P.S. Yep, freaky hairdo is me! -
Guild Wars 2: 60 Reasons‏ - YouTube
Well I hope it is released in 2011, I cannot wait for this to be on my PC! I just need to finish the summer and then I'll have Skyrim and BF3. Anyway, from what they have said about the game, is that everyone has their own story, which leads me to think that this isn't another "WoW clone". I am interested to see how this will play out in an MMO, with the world changing due to events that others do. One of the things that makes MMOs stale for me is how old things get, and how things don't differ from each MMO...
Guild Wars 2 - G4.com - The MMO Report‏ - YouTube
I mean the things that get to me are: The same quests! i.e. escorts, or killing amount of this, or gathering amount of that. The grinding! and sometimes other players!
I am really curious to see if GW2 will change this, bring back teamwork, and if their system works out for everyone who populates the Massive World. I just hope it doesn't get repetitive, old, and keeps me on the end of my seat, waiting for what is to come next in the lore and in the game.
Alexrediculous's Channel‏ - YouTube
I would recommend Alexrediculous' videos if you are iffy about GW2, as he explains good things to come from it. The way he presents it makes me want to play it so bad! It might sway you into loving it to, because he points out a lot. Sorry if I sound too excited, this seems like the perfect game for me!
Also doombug, your hair isn't freaky, long hair FTW! (I had to cut mine sadly :/) -

I'm surprised there is no "Offical Guild Wars" NBR thread... I'M CALLING IT!
-
I saw countless and useless discussions out there on numerous forums about "WoW clones" and how they could not compare. I sincerely hope this thread does not become one of them!
WoW was released in late 2003 and was spot on with the things it offered. But dooming every MMO that was released afterwards (because of later development/lack of features. etc etc) by calling them "fails" or "clones" is just wrong.
["Insert not as good as the iPhone" jokes here] -
i find it hard to understand the statement "I notice that no one has made a thread on this particular game which in my opinion is clearly the best game of the year." has it been released already?......the best game of which year, will it be a good game, im guessing it will have a very loyal following, but to make that statement on a game that hasn't, as far as im aware even been released is maybe a little premature.
-
-
Well all my WoW friends are badmouthing Guild Wars 2, saying it's "just another WoW clone", so I have no one to play with. Is there going to be like a NBR group or something? I'd hate to go into this game alone.
-
I can't wait for the beta for this game; I've played Guild Wars and the expansions to death. I just wish some of the areas were more populated now, I really enjoy the PvE in the game.
-
-
Is Blizzard planning a retaliation?
-
-
Worst case scenario: you will have me and _Cheesy_ around
Why would Blizzard even bother? They already brainwashed everyone into thinking that the MMOs released after 2003 are WoW clones. All we know now is that they are working on a new casual MMO called "Titan".
-
Anyway, I keep watching that Top 10 reasons video and getting anticipated all over again. Anyone else doing the same with gameplay videos and such? My browser is filled with GW2, haha. -
I'll be playing GW2 from launch day as well. I played the first one to death (laptops have to be used for something during boring classes at uni after all
).

There is a pattern for the release of release dates:
Guild Wars 1's Release Date was announced on February 14, 2005 (RD: April 28, 2005) 11 weeks
Faction's Release Date was announced on March 10, 2006 (RD: April 28, 2006)
6 weeksish
Nightfall's Release Date was announced on August 24, 2006 (RD: October 27, 2006) 9 weeks
EoTN's Release Date was announced on July 2, 2007 (RD: August 31, 2007)
8 weeksish
When was Guild Wars 1 release date announced? - Guild Wars 2 Guru Forums
So if the game is going to released in September, the date should be known by the end of this month.
Anyway, could this turn out like Duke Nukem Forever did? Everyone was waiting for that game and it didn't play like they all hoped and expected it to be. Are we giving too much expectations to GW2? or are the devs describing exactly what they put in and are only trying to get us MORE anticipated for it's release? (Copy pastaing this into the other GW thread, maybe we should just have ONE thread for GW2 talkage and GW1 geekage?) -
But it's likely I won't be playing GW2 because of NCSoft and this Guild Wars 2 Screenshots at MMORPG.com -
I'm really not into anything that is Asura either and many people frown upon them, but the thing is that it will be a part of the Guild Wars world and a thing that will enrich the experience.
There will be other 4 races to choose from.
@PlagueDoctor: Duke Nukem failed because it was a ragged doll thrown between studios which had no idea how to play with it. It also had the misfortune of being released 13 years after the first one to which the expectations were extremely high.
Guild Wars 2 is a prethought game. It is also an MMORPG and can be placed in another category entirely. It is built on solid mechanics and ideas that were implemented from the beginning of the design phase, which means that there is a lot of space, time and flexibility for game designers to come up with something innovative/keep up with expectations. It is also a game that has the things that Guild Wars 1 didn't have. Most of the features missing were pointed out by the fans who wished them to be implemented in the sequel. ArenaNet followed most of these feedbacks. Expectations are high, and ArenaNet will try their best to meet all of them. -
Ah alright, have they shown multiple people doing one quest or an event yet? I'm interested to see how this will work because everyone has a different story and it's hard for me to think of a system that would organize this.
-
This is just one of the dozen random things that can happen at any time around the game world.
And if this does not get you excited enough, one of the developers pointed out the fact that this is just one of the lesser dragon encounters. -
I have watched a few videos, but I wanted to hear it from some people who have played both WOW and GW. How are they a like and different. I know the graphics style and all of that, but I am talking details. Like character balance, community, how useful are their forums for discussing things? Anything you can think of, this looked really cool and I wanted to play it. I used to play WOW and stopped about 3-4 yrs ago. I had over 100 days logged on one character. Loved my Warlock
-
GW1 is not really like WoW. Its a heavily instanced coop RPG basically. GW2 is going to by quite different from GW1.
-
Most of the videos point out that GW2 is trying to be different from WoW and all the others in the genre. They're trying to evolve the genre into something better, ergo unique and new. Although just by calling unique doesn't make it good, Arenanet has been putting a lot of time and they even show it.
I'm going to say GW2 will be better than WoW (for me that is) because I'm looking for something new that the developers are excited for too (meaning they are excited so it would motivate them to make the game good). We can't accurately compare GW2 to WoW right now, but from what Arenanet claims I believe it will be better because of Arenanet's confidence. Now it is time to resume watching gameplay videos and anticipate it's release! -
Also in GW1 it is quite easy to reach the maximum level, as opposed to WoW where it can take a long time to reach level 80. So there is less focus on leveling and a greater focus on the story line and skill builds.

If you don't care about the video, and you want a tad enlightenment to the traits, just skip to 2:10. -
-
I never tried GW1 because I always heard it was mostly a PvP game.
I'm hoping GW2 will be different and give us more PvE. PvP is just wayy too boring after awhile, at least with PvE you can follow a story line.
I like my MMORPG's I don't want MMOFPS's. -
Professions. What are you going to run and why?
I'm looking through the classes now, so you guys go first! xD
8th profession? Discuss!
Edit:
I'm probably going for the thief class because I played a rogue in WoW and I like the idea of being like in the shadows and dealing quick damage without notoriety. Also, I like assassins and being a cunning yet powerful character. I will definitely be using the dodge tactic, and it's either this or a warrior for my melee. Another class i'll be running would be the Necromancer! -
PvP overshadowed the PvE part because of it's nature. It is a MMORPG focused on competitive play which was driven by strategies and builds thought up by the PvP communities. It is pretty dynamic. There was no universal PvP build to rule them all. And that was the ultimate appeal. -
Well to say the least I will try them all... but I will probably go for this:
Human - Mesmer, Elementalist, Necro and Thief
Norn - Warrior and Guardian (Norn Guardian is probably gonna be the first ever)
Char - Engineer
Asura (not really excited about this one, but I'm probably gonna try it for fun) - some caster definitely or thief for funsies. (cuz they are so small and cute)
Sylvari - Ranger
Most of these are based on my opinion of which race suits which class "best" (and of course lore and other stuff). -
As for races, i'm going Sylvari/Human - Thief, Char - Necromancer/Engineer
-
Cool, I was wondering, I haven't really looked much into it. But, how is the PVP? And are the different races against each other or what?
-
Watch some more videos man! Haha, the races are all together, they are fighting the Elder Dragons! The PVP has 2 types, WvWvW and Regular. WvWvW is where 3 realms fight each other in a tactical way (controlling land, etc.) Regular is where players are put to max level and they fight (maybe with same equipment, so it's only based on skill). Arenanet was trying to make it so PvE and PvP were 2 separate things, but it is possible to get to level 80 just by playing PvP (it levels your character).
