Anyways, Guild Wars 2 is on sale for $30, I'm just wondering should I get it? I used to be all into MMORPG's until I just stopped about 2 years ago, and I really would love to get into another one. The thing is, EverQuest Next and WildStar have really caught my attention, and once those are out I will most likely just ditch Guild Wars 2 altogether.
I was also just going to play a bit of Final Fantasy XI Online a bit here and there to get back into the MMORPG feel, and plus already have tons of great games to keep me busy, but this is really tempting. Should I buy an MMORPG that I know I will just ditch and most likely never play again once the ones I'm waiting for come out? Opinions please![]()

Anyway, the game has changed a lot and it is going through continuous transformation. Anet is working hard to keep the "living world" concept alive by updating the game every two weeks with new content, which is quite impressive and unique for MMO's as far as I know.
I have friends who played WoW and now play GW2. Some like it and some don't. Some expect it to be "better" than WoW, but the truth is, that GW2 is just different. I'm saying this because you have experience with MMOs and WoW is a reference point.
GW2 is unlike most MMO's out there because everything is dynamic. Quests become active when you approach their active area. The dungeons and boss scripts are on another level. You actually have a personal story with cut scenes and everything in game and you can go it solo or with friends. PvP is divided between World vs World (Server vs Server) where you have hundreds of players battling it out on the field or defending fortresses and Structured, where you organize battles in different arenas. Combat has synergy. One guy's skill can enhance the other guy's area of effect spell and so on...
I have around 450 hours in the game and, like I've said, I've played for around a year now. The game tailors the way you want to play and you don't need to play a lot to feel involved. You can fully level a character all the way to level 80 while doing PvP.
The game has an achievement system. You get rewarded for almost everything you do. The game has a way to keep you interested.
In my opinion, if you are 100% you won't have time for it after other games are out, then don't buy it. If you aren't sure, give it a try. It might surprise you. -

$30? Definitely worth it. I say if you can get >30 hours of gameplay on it, then its worth it and most people can get more than that. The whole world is done really well and it's pretty. You can tell a lot of work went into designing the game. The story telling is a little weak and there are some bugs, but with biweekly content updates, no subscription fee, and healthy population, you'll be getting your money's worth

i enjoyed it. i gotten my sylvari elementalist to lvl 80 then i stopped playing. it got kinda boring for me after that and i didnt want to start over with a new character.

I used to play it... not sure if it changed but... theres nothing to do once you hit the level cap except playing that WvWvW mini game...
I you want to play a old school mmo just play Rift... its totally F2P and much better than WoW. -
Thanks for all the replies! Sadly, when I went back to buy the game the next day after my original post the sale had already ended. However, I have decided to buy Guild Wars 2. From what you all tell me and from other reviews, the journey you take towards endgame and everything you do along the way is amazing and enjoyable, plenty of hours can be taken out of the game. Even though endgame is pretty much boring, the path you take to that point isn't... and for all those hours you put into that journey it is well worth the $60 price since it's no longer on sale. I haven't bought a $60 game since Battlefield 3 - so might as well be this lol, and by the time I reach endgame EverQuest Next will most likely be out, so no worries if I wont play it after if there isn't much to play at the end right? Well, they might add more endgame content which will most likely make me stay longer, which may be better because a "fully destructible voxel-based world" like EverQuest Next is bound to have major bugs at release, so I wont have to deal with those

Still for $39.99. Better than paying full $60.Akimitsui likes this.
