Thanks, i love the detail of both the characters and environments in this game. This is shaping up to be the real deal.
-
Aww yeah GW2.
I LOVE GW, so I'm really lookinh forward to this. -

From what I hear, they're keeping the 8-skill system to GW2, with some minor changes (I'm really psyched about this, since the 8-skill limit was a really major and unique part of PvP and GW as a whole... a lot of planning and builds involved)
I spent so much time making guild vs guild builds and playing themYeah I'm guilty of having tried E/Mo spike
Was pretty fun, but I only used it once or twice since it was so easily countered by a decent Monk with a good reversal... or if they brought in Protective Spirit... heh. Monk was fun (I used to play monk in PvP/GvG ~95% of the time)
-
Looks cool! I wasn't a huge fan of GW because im more of PvE guy but this def looks like a cool game.
-
the detailed environment is insane
I love it -
-
hoping the pvp stays the same as well with better skill balances and more maps
i was pretty into pvp in GW1 so this should be exciting -
Haha......I almost lost hope and reserved GW2 to vaporware.
I was hardcore into Guild Wars back when it first started in like the June of 2005. I stopped playing about October of that year but I got into alot of high level PvP there. Actually been to the Hall of Heroes about 20 times or so mostly with my guild but only won it like once before.
Anyways, I'd been through the massive E/Mo spikes, the Ranger QS spike teams, IWAY teams (most horrible build ever), Monk spike teams (my guild was one of the firsts running it). I still remember back when you could still solo underworld with a prot monk stacked full of superior runes.
Also......Ettin farming for runes was awesome. I'd gotten like 4 superior vigors off of them back then when they were going for like 60 plat. -

^^ Many people wre saying there wouldnt be a guild wars 2 for a long time but this pretty much put that doubt to sleep.
-
I LOVED GW PvP. IMO it was the best pvp ever created for an "mmo". The PVE in GW was decent, at best, but the pvp was what made that game special. There are going to be much better pve games released next year imo (AION, Mortal Online, FFXIV to name a few, Diablo III). -
-
I was one of my guilds main Monks, and I was pretty good, I must admit. It wasn't an odd sight to see us in the Hall of Heroes, let alone holding it. -
As good as the PvP was in Guild Wars, back when I was in it, I found it to be kinda elitist.
Basically, normal PUG groups will never stand a chance in Tombs (back then) unless they're like 4 favor+ PUGs but then how the heck are you gonna get 4 favor by only going to PUGs?
Tombs were pretty easy to get far along in if you're in a decent guild (which I assigned to be rank 300 or better) but then how the heck are you going to get into a good guild if you don't have a high favor?
It kinda became a chicken and an egg thing unless you're good friends with people in good guilds who can vouch for you. -
-
man I loved this game back in the day. when I was really playing this on a regular basis, it ranked up there with the most fun I've had in video gaming ever. That's not a small claim, as I've played my share.
Plus I loved the way Arena-Net fostered a sense of community in the game. I remember when we were nominated to be a guild of the week and decided to submit the most joke cliche builds as a prank, and people then started PMing us asking for tips on running the builds... haha good times.

that was my guild! Furby that was me! maybe I'll get back into this. -
Was that a Big Daddy , I saw just after the halfway point of the trailer ?

Anyone with any brains could earn reputation pretty well. Learn a good build, start LEADING pug groups, and win a few HA's. If you're playing against moderate to decent HA guilds they'll see that you're at least decent as a player and can be molded into someone useful. Either that or run random 4v4 for awhile, and don't suck, and you'll get pick up by a good guild pretty quick.
The game was all about communicating and networking, if you had bad people skills and sucked at the game, of course you were going to be excluded from competitive play, but then again you should be. -

Ultima online eh? Man thats grandpa old
I do hear great things about it though from the players who use to play. -
Now i've never played guild wars before simply because teh current game's graphics aren't that great. They're ok by todays standards but just ok. Guild Wars 2 on the other hand looks simply amazing. I may actually purchasea that game and play it. I'll probably buy it for me and my girlfriend so we can play together since it looks nice, and also seems to have aloooot of features.
-
-
Honestly the actual in game footage in that video gave me just as much of an artificial 2D feel as the intro animations did.
-
Am I crazy because honestly I feel the graphics are pretty similar to Guild Wars? I mean, there's nicer textures and rendering, but overall it's not entirely a new feel, it just looks like a more polished version of the 1st one's graphics(as Anet themselves said they'd use the same engine to maximize game compatibility).
-
Yes same engine in name (though verrry heavily modified) I think they even added a Z axis so jumping is now possible. For a MMO GW had some of the best graphics when it first came out (my op) and they are still pretty decent, though a bit aged now. I think they are going to try and compete with the other major mmo with GW2. to do that they have to keep the graphics pretty ballanced though so as to support as many low end systems as possible.
-
-
Am i the only one who is not really looking for ward to the whole jumping thing in GW2?
-
-
-
I just really hope the level cap's raised from 20. level 20 cap=no gameplay.
Yes i know you could make a billion alts. But i don't do alts almost ever. I make 1 maybe 2 characters and that's it. cap as level 20=almost no gameplay :/.
And yes Guild Wars graphics are better than wows but they're not even close to anything that's out there curretnly as in the top f2p ones. GW2 looks a bit better so i'm hoping it'll be better. Aion looks really nice but the whole "we're going to use gameguard" thing has completely ruined it for me. Oh well never even going to try that game. -
-
-
Haha......you don't understand the point of Guild Wars at all.....please stop and just go back to playing WoW if thats what you're inclined to......
Having a level 20 cap, which is pretty easy to achieve but takes alot longer than 6 hours, reduces the importance of grinding.
In most MMORPGs, the guy who grinded the most either leveling up or getting gear will always be better. In guild wars, the leveling part is at least removed and the gear, although important, isn't that critical. As long as you got the correct skills, you can do decently. This makes it so much of the game is based on how skilled you are rather than how long you can sit at a computer every day.
Anyways.....the only reason I'd play Guild Wars was for the PvP..... -
Most of the mmos i play it's more important to have your skill/stats in order. Stats+Skills is more important than some "amazing gear" as teh gear was never the end all tell all of a player.
If there's no point in leveling. Why the hell is guild wars even an mmo?
the point of an mmo is to be able to level up and gain skills/stats that will then let you be the best. For a player who doesn't care for pvp the game ends after the content ends. I don't know how guild wars pvp will be so i don't feel like wasting my cash to just level up to 20 and find out i'll never play the game again. I don't do much pvp i'm more of a pve.
Edit: Also that's why pvp should be controlled. Player can't be attacked by a player x levels above them. Simple fixes your "problem" with pvp and such. -
Is Guild Wars any good? The only subscription based MMORPG I've ever played is World of Warcraft but Guild Wars' no monthly fee always appealed to me.
Since Guild Wars 2 is a full blown sequel will they be reseting levels? -
-
-
PvP in guild wars is controlled that you have to go to Arenas or Tombs or GvGs to do them. -
First off it creates 100 more problems than it fixes. Secondly it behaves like a rootkit and also is spyware/malware. This is basing off of the definition of the "anti spyware coalition".
It doesn't like some antivirus programs thus making you have to be more vunerable same with firewalls. Also it doesn't like some random programs thus limiting your ability to use what you normally use (nonhacking items). Next it installs itself without you knowing it. Or atleast it did in all of the mmos i saw that had it, i didn't install them just reviewed the EULA/TOS/TOA they never once mentioned "gameguard", "Xguard" or any other service in there. So they are effectively installing spyware on your computer without your consent.
It runs on the driver level so thus it is more of a rootkit than blizzard's warden. I don't care for that one either but it is there.
Also it limits the number of people who can play said game. No one running linux, or any other os other than windows can never run it. On top of that it's a perfect example of lazycoders/companies. It's much more simple to do all of the "anti-hacking" on the servers end. Watch Packets, have an active staff. That'll do WAY MORE than gameguard has ever done.
Edit: and i play a game for the time of enjoyment. I rarely play pvp in games. And if i do play an mmo i play on a pve server. Aka no pvp unless in arena, battle grounds, etc. So knowing that i only have 20 levels of enjoyment before it's over doesn't appeal to me at all. -
