    Hi,

I'm looking to purchase the Clevo 150SM w/ 8970m and was pretty much set on it until about an hour ago.

I found some benchmarks on my most played game - Gw2. The 8970m scored avg 36fps on Medium settings and ~30fps on high. This is a lower score than even the 770m which I find odd.

Is a driver problem the reason for the lower scores? What is everyone else with the 8970m getting in terms of FPS with GW2?

:( I'm considering saving up a little more and getting the 780m now...

    Help is appreciated.

Save your money.. 8970M is more than good enough and probably is driver issue.... Its easily more powerful than 770M and even 780M in some cases.... Really not worth spending few 100 extra for 5 fps more in 1 game when overall, 8970M is an excellent package...

Because the 8970M was paired with a slow-azz A10 APU and thus getting bottlenecked like crazy while the 770M was paired with an i7. GW2 is a very CPU-bound game. I guarantee you the 8970M will perform faster than the 770M if both are paired with an i7.

Thanks for your replies. Oh I didn't know it was paired with an A10 for that benchmark (does it mention that on the page?). If that is the case the lower score would definitely make sense. Thanks again. :)

If you were looking at notebookcheck data, then you can click on the score to get the system used for benchmarking. Also, yeah in GW2's case, an A10 would yield much lower scores than an Intel quad core. The game is ridiculously CPU bound.

Thanks It was notebookcheck data. I didn't realise clicking on the score would reveal the system they used to test the game. It was indeed the A10 that was yielding much lower scores. Yeah game does seem to be CPU bound - I was also looking at the 770m and it scored higher FPS on low and mid because of a better CPU. Looks like I'd be best to stick with the 8970m and perhaps consider upgrading the CPU. Can the I7-4700 be overclocked well or would I just be better off spending a little extra to get the i7 - 4800? (I know that question is a bit OT but thought I'd ask). Everyone's help so far is greatly appreciated.

The i7-4700 will do fine for GW2, you will get lower fps in WvW, but unless you had a 5+ GHz quad core, it's kind of inevitable.

could be both software and hardware -- its a recent gnu, could be the game, or even your CPU causing problems.

its the cpu. it really depends on where you are. in lion's arch, i get 20-30 fps depending on how many people are in there. in other areas i get 60 fps no problem. in WvWvW, expect horrible fps.
