is the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 good enough to run guild wars?
-
-
It can run it, but nowhere near max settings.
-
Yes, it can run it fine, not at the best settings, but fine. Guild Wars isn't very graphically intensive.

I played it on an old Pentium III 800MHz box with 256MB of RAM. You can play it just fine on that. Don't expect maximum settings though as posted.
-
Wow, GW really WILL run on anything.. =O
-
There is a trick to getting GW to run on Intel chips but I can't remember what it is. You can check www.guildwarsguru.com and do a search for intel graphics and you will find the trick to it.
-
1.when you talk about max settings...
max resolutions?
can you give me an example for wc3 and source
2.what kind of game is guild wars? is it like wc3? or diablo?
3. it recommended you have a ati 9000 graphics card or nvidia ti series
if u compare these with the gma 950, what are the differences?
thanks in advance -
I used to run it on a 1ghz Celeron, 256mb RAM, and a GeForce MX420. It runs on anything. But dont expect the greatest graphics.
-
or because the inspiron m640 doesnt have the best graphics card? -
Because intel graphics card wont be able to push the graphics up too far.
-
ic, thank you
-
No problem, glad to have helped.
-
Guild Wars sucks
-
What a nice and informative post...

Please keep this relevant to the topic and reasonable/helpful, thanks guys.
Chaz -
argh I logged on in class to check something and my friend next to me must have posted that while I went to get my work printed
Oh and thanks for the negative rep... -
does it really?
i hear its like WoW
except more complex -
Well, I don't like WoW, it's too easy, and the characters look WAY too weird..
My friend plays Guild Wars though, and he likes it a lot, and we're about into the same sort of thing, so, I'd probably like it, at least a little bit.
I personally play FFXI and find it to be one of the best MMORPGs out there. Excellent graphics, especially for how old it is and the genre, wonderful storyline, though a bit spread out, easy to get used to interface, much simpler and cleaner than most MMORPGs I've seen, as well as extremely long and challenging. However, it has its downsides to, like any game, RMTs (Real-Money Traders) run amok, but that's to be found in any MMORPG or other game that uses currency of any sort online. Elitest players expecting inexhorbitant equipment and results when leveling, also everywhere else. -
I have Lineage 2 running on my XPS M140 (Intel GMA 900, Pentium M 1.73 GHz, 512MB ddr2 ram), and it is running pretty good...
average textures
average gamma
high texture detail
high modeling detail
ground foilage = ON
shadows = OFF
at this settings, it feels like the game runs above 40 fps. There is practically no lag.
My question is, since Guild Wars has identical minimum and recommended requirements, can I expect a similar level of performance from my laptop? -
Most likely, yes, if the requirements are the same.
-
im not really into (MMO)RPG, im more of a RTS and FPS guy
the only RPG game id ever like and play is WoW, but because its a pay-to-play game, i dont play it
thats why im considering GW -
How do you know you'd like it if you've not played it? =X
Guild Wars IS an MMORPG, by the way, just a less open one than most. -
because i like wc3
WoW is where you customize your hero and fight around
like a gigantic hero arena (UMS)
AND I LOOOOOVE HERO ARENAS!
right? -
WoW is an open-ended MMORPG in which you explore, quest, and team up with other players to get various armors and weapons, and such. Yes, there is PVP, but unless you're on a PVP server, which I would recommend against, then it isn't the main thing in the game.
-
-
then ill love guild wars!
-
is there single player
-
No, its an MMORPG.
-
Phantasy Star Online had both a single player mode as well as online, and Phantasy Star Universe will be coming out later this yea,r I believe. That may be worth a look.
-
As a veteran Guild Wars player (received my 1 year old birthday gift from ANet yesterday - YAY!) I would say that the PvE (non PvP) in Guild Wars is boring as hell. However, the PvP is absolutely amazing. Although PvP in Guild Wars is difficult to play both in terms of skill and team work (only 8 characters per team each with only 8 skills along, with different terrains on every map and different victory conditions etc.), the game can be extremely satisfying and rewarding if you are someone who loves such challenges (victory after 40 minutes against a rank 100+ guild satisfies me greatly).
-
im still buying it =)
-
-
im only going to buy factions
i cant play it without buying the first one? -
Factions is an expansion pack, not the game itself.
-
Factions is a stand-alone expansion. That means you can still play Factions if you don't have the original; you just are limited to the Factions continent, and can't go to the original continent. All of the original characters are avaliable in Factions, as well as two new ones.
-
My mistake, I'm not familiar with Guild Wars, I just assumed it was like other expansion packs..
-
The missions in factions are significantly harder than Prophecies (the original Guild Wars) so I would recommend you to play Prophecies before factions. In factions, there is a 10 minute tutorial which teaches you the basics in the game (and it's not enough unless you pay a hell of a lot of attention to it) while in Prophecies there is an entire world (yes, with cities and missions, and once you finish that you will be transported to the ACTUAL game) for you to train on.
-
i cant get it any other way?
maybe i can download them and put them in factions program file? -
Buy Guild Wars AND Guild Wars Factions and you will have the benefits of both.
-
theyre really expensive though
haha ^^; -
-
Is factions any good? i have guild wars but WOW puts every other game to shame so far. Paid 50 bucks for guild wars, never really got into it, seems like a slower diablo 2?
-
It's not like Diablo at all in my opinion (you don't kill nearly as fast and missions require much more than just 'kill this ghoul' or summink similar). But yes, the PvE side of Guild Wars is slow and boring in my opinion, which is why most Guild Wars veterans play PvP because that is where the real fun lies.
And expensive? Come on! Compared to other MMORPGs which require you to dish out £10 a month in addition to the amount you spend up front, Guild Wars is freaking cheap at a one off price of about £20 each.
And Factions is good in the sense that it introduces new classes and many new skills which make a great difference in terms of PvP. That's why everyone who is into Guild Wars and love the PvP must get Factions to keep up with everyone else. I recommend you first get Guild Wars Prophecies and see whether you enjoy it or not (do some PvP dammit) and then decide whether or not to get Factions. -
I'd have to disagree. Guild Wars is nice not having a monthly fee, however, with the amount of things to do in it low enough to be able to basically beat most of the fun things while still buying and playing other games at the same time overrides that.
Guild Wars - Free/month, $50+ for other games per month.
Other more engrossing MMORPGs that immerse you into a complete other world - $13-20 per month.
Just what I think... -
i didn't want to be that guy that said it that way : ) but i agree...and it took my best friend 50 bucks to buy me world of warcraft to realize it. Gotta play to pay, and 15 bucks isn't anything compared to what people waste money on. This is a guild wars thread though and i respect that. I just would never classify it as a true MMPOG experiance.
-
Well, it IS technically a MMORPG, it has all the elements for the most part... Except for the one thing that makes an MMORPG, the massively multiplayer part of it, the vast open world that immerses you into its many folds.. I think Guild Wars is more of a Multiplayer Online RPG..

Great game, but I think it would have done better is WoW wasn't out.
-
I suppose Guild Wars is somewhat more like a Counter Strike for RPG fans. All the friends I have on it only play the PvP aspect of the game. They play different games like Rose Online or RF Online or WoW for the non-pvp experience.
-
oh budding, please tell me GW is NOTHING like rose online...
btw, can you tell me how pvp works? -
I have personally never played Rose Online so I cannot comment on that.
Guild Wars PvP comes in many different forms. Note that you get experience and Faction (used for unlocking skills and weapon upgrades etc) in all PvP:
Unrewarding ones (in my opinion):
1. There are small arenas in cities where 4 RANDOM players fight 4 other RANDOM players with level restrictions. These arenas are intended for PvP newbies to get some experience.
2. There is the Random Arena where 4 random players fight 4 other random players without level restrictions.
3. There is the Team Arena where people form groups of 4 and battle other groups of 4. Much more organised - usually used for testing out certain builds.
Rewarding ones:
4. The lovely Heroes Ascent. My personal favourite, where 8 people battle 8 people on different maps with many different winning conditions (like Hold the center for xx minutes or capture the flag, or just kick the **** out of the enemy before they do it to you). These are rewarding as you get FAME for every victory (more FAME for executive wins) and IF you get ENOUGH fame, you can use the /fame emote and SHOW OFF!!
5. GvG: This is where 2 guilds battle each other on each others Guild Halls. Winning condition is kill the enemy Guild Lord (this NPC with 100000 health or summink), but there are so many different Guild Halls out there that tactics plays a very vital role (some Guild Halls are ideal for split teams, others slow you down, others have damage floors etc.). If you win a Rated (you can play unrated if you want) GvG, the Guild Ranking of your guild increases (and decreases if you lose) and it gets shown on the Guild Wars Ladder! If you Guild's ranking is high enough, you could even get to play on a Guild Wars International Tournament where $$$$$ can be won (A guild called EviL won it last time).
Factions ONLY PvP:
6. Scrimmage: This is where your guild can fight your guild. Form two teams of minimum 1 player a team (duh) and fight it out on your own guild hall. Good for practice as you get no faction for this one however, or to kill that one single guildie you hate.
7. Alliance battles: 12v12 on a gigantic map with NPCs and altars and mean Base Defenders which do 999 AoE dmg a hit. If you win you gain Alliance Faction which your Guild can use to BUY A CITY IN GAME W00T OMG 1337 R0XX0rZ.
However the main fun is in coming up with decent builds as you are ONLY ALLOWED TO TAKE EIGHT SKILLS ALONG EACH. So for the Heroes Ascent for example, if you want to go all the way you must come up with a build that can: kill enemies, hold altars, run flags etc. And because of the uniqueness of Guild Wars' skills, many different combinations are available (for example the EoE bomb build involves dropping an EoE spirit, which does xx DMG to everyone in its radius IF someone dies, and then just letting 7 players in your team kill themselves causing EoE to trigger and hopefully wipe out all of the enemy. Then, as you have 1 remaining player alive, you technically win the map (although on other maps this is less effective as the enemy resurrects every once in a while). My personal favourite build is Pokeway! But I'm going off topic here.).
