while looking for mods for gh3 I saw a patch 1.3 which adds a "front row camera" and drops the minimum requirement to x3100, the performance is a bit better with my go7600 and even in the parts where it doesn't perform well(japan with some crowd) the game remains playable, the stuttering is gone! the graphics no more wait to catch up. I now recommend the pc version of this game.

But... is it 3-D ?

Well graphics are just a plus IMO with the gameplay being the primary. I've grown out of these music games and don't care much for them anymore. Good graphics are for the audience watching the screen while the player focuses on the scrolling bar to play the notes.

will it work on mac os x with x3100?

Maybe with bootcamp installed?

I'm trying to run version 1.3 of GH3 with an X3100 and it says my video card is not supported....interesting. Updating Intel drivers now, will see if that makes a difference. This is on a Sony Vaio VGN-CR290 btw.
EDIT: looks like the driver update solved it. Not the greatest framerate but it's definitely playable.
Guitar hero 3 now can be played on x3100
