Well i would like to start off by saying that I'm a great fan of Half life, SCREW that, I'm a SUPER HUGE fan of it. Honestly is the best single player game i have played in my short and entire life.(21) As you all know, half life episode 3, or HL3, was not a go go. As gave Newell denied any development of it many many times. I was Quite dissapointed that the saga was put on hold because portal
, then team fortress, then left for dead
, then left 4 dead 2, *sigh* then swarm, them portal 2, *sigh* then counter strike offensive.
my hopes died for sure.
But THIS made my day.
What you think?

I think this is good news, but by god. It's still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overdue for a continuation. It's an episode pack, it shouldn't take more than 2 years just to release one.
-
BTW the original halflife is by far, the best
edit: +rep for an AWESOME find man, good job to attention to detail! (on finding the article) -
Let vALVE take their time. They want the game to be epic awesome cheese kewl game ever.
-
Chill out, we all know HL2:EP3 is the new Duke Nukem Forever. xD
-
Too bad this will never happen > Black Mesa: A Half-Life 2 modification -
Sigh. I've been hoping for an Ep 3 for a long time as well. Hell just do some level design with the current Source engine and I am certain it will be epic and satisfy the HL crowd. In any case I'd rather see a full fledged Half-Life 3 20 hour game and wrap it all up. I just can't see how Valve can be missing the fact that HL3/Ep3 will be a hot seller and make them more money hand over fist. HL was their child that put them on the map, how can they just ignore them now that they've matured and moved out of the house?

It is kind of disheartening that NOTHING has been leaked about it AT ALL. Valve is good at keeping secrets but usually something sneaks out. I still don't get how they can ignore what made them popular and clearly has such a huge fan base.

It would make sense for them to release an episode 3 (or HL3) with a co-op for single player. Imagine a co-op single player with Gordon, Barney and Alyx (and some other character to make it close to l4d gameplay... not that it should be).
EDIT: Oh, and regarding Black Mesa... the devs didn't say that they stopped working on it. It's just that they haven't updated us with any news for some time now. -
This is like making the first two Lord of the Rings movies and then saying they're not going to make the third because it doesn't have Charlie Sheen in it, even though they already profited One Billion Dollars (pinky to mouth) from the first two.
Sad, sad day when one of the best SP action/adventure game makers stops making SP action/adventure games. I sad. QQ -
I wouldn't be surprised if they went for a co-op for HL ep 3.
At the end of the day, this can be translated as extremely aggressive marketing on multiplayer games (the Dota 2 case for example).
And if it comes to money, Dota 2, CS:GO will make their day. Of that I am certain!
LFD series are huge sellers as well, be it if you want to play it alone or not. -
I wouldn't mind having a side plot co-op game which you can play after having completed the game in single player but the main game should never be co-op for half life. Gordan freeman is an arm with a crowbar, that is all. Also all the voice acting and cinematics would go out the window, something which made HL2 unique.
What I propose is that for th co-op you play as some citizens or something, helping with the uprising. Seeing it from another persons perspective would let them put in some massive hints about the games many shady areas which little is known about or have much speculation.
Also, I thought portal 2 was the last portal game?
Call me antisocial, but while co-op can be fun, it can also be a complete PITA which can frustrate people on both sides when neither can understand the plan the other proposes. Single player games have a different nature to them which can be nice in some respects since you feel more independant and free to do what you like. If you want to jump off a cliff to reset the level in single player then that's your decision but trying that in co-op would likely lead to arguement. -

i think this is being blown outta proportion as the said code doesnt necessarily mean its episode 3.
Although with that said this is a good thing and bad thing.
the good is that this will show valve yet again that episode 3 is wanted by the people NOW!!
the bad thing i havent seen anyone mention yet is that valve cannot trust the beta team entirely.
unless of course this is all a ruse and it was purposely placed in there to mess with our heads. If thats the case then touche valve touche.
as for the coop side story thing i can see that happening since half life opposing force and blue shift are basically that.
I dunno what the truth may be but valve i AM waiting for that episode 3 still. Also if this was just one of those mess with your head things you need to stop man my head can only take so much. -
Well EP3 could mean anything, anyhow, probably not even related to Half-Life 3.
-
From what I understand they never said they're ditching singleplayer but they're moving on to "singleplayer plus" games which might mean added social features or additional coop stuff such as portal 2.
At least I hope and believe this is the case
They've also said they're not continuing with the episodic model anymore as it obviously didn't work out as they intended. Might as well title it HL3 after all this time, right?
