I downloaded the latest Catalyst 8.8 drivers, but upon installation, the Catalyst Install Manager claimed that my current drivers (8.452) were already up to date. Is this the case with everyone else with an HD 2600, or is ATI kicking me in the man parts?

That is because you cannot download mobility drivers from ATI website - you have to get them from your manufacturer.

Google mobility modder, it will help you get the drivers from ATI's website.

Just a word to the wise tho: I upgraded from my stock gateway 8.45 -> 8.522 using mobility modder, and the GPU started running 1-2C hotter.

Thanks for the tip guys. I upgraded from 8.453 to 8.522 using mobility modder. I didn't see any real performance increase (or decrease thankfully) in the source stress test, although now I can use 8xAA if I really want to. :p

Well dang...I used to be stable at 625/750 in 3DMark06, but I tested those settings again after the driver update and it crashed. :( I mean its not a huge deal. Its still stable at 600/700 which is what I game at, and the performance increase of +25/+50 is pretty marginal. Guess I'll live.
