Alright then, my envy 15 has a 7750m card, @ stock 575/1000 it gets
this in 3dmark11 andthis in unigine.
With an OC to 667/1000 it gets this in 3dmark11 and
this in unigine.
I was just wondering, how does it stack up to the 650m ddr5 and previous gen cards
i forgot to mention this is with the 12.7 beta drivers

Notebookcheck shows an average of 2300 for the 650m at stock for 3dmark11.
(a reminder that notebookcheck gets the lowest possible scores so that should be considered the absolute worst the 650m would ever do)
Most savvy users are getting fairly impressive overclocks with the 650m and the latest set of drivers. They are reporting 3dmark11 P scores around 2800-2900.
I'd say the results indicate that the 650m is a step or two above the 7750m. -
I'll run unigine this evening at stock clocks and max oc's (1085/1100)

hmm how much do u think official drivers will increase score and OCing ability? Right now im unofficially OCing with afterburner since there are no official drivers from amd out yet.

Highest i've seen the 7850m(not 7750m) do is 3000 pt(OC) on 3d mark 11
how does that compare with the 660m ?
Edit: I just checked 3d mark, 660m oc seams to be doing 3000pt too. -
i gotz another question. doesnt nvidia have physix which helps to get a higher score in 3dmark11 but its useless for most other stuff?

That was in vantage and is off by default.
If a review site uses vantage with it on, never go back because they are worthless at benchmarking. -
ah alright . and then another thing i heard is that kepler is good at dx11 stuff so thats why they got higher scores than previous gen cards but overall perform like the previous gen. Like 650m scores quite a bit higher than 560m but it basically ties in performance?

Roughly, yes... although I think the 675m will be poor competition for the 7950m (if it ever releases) due to the 675 being a rebrand, especially when OC'd. -
hmm why is the 3dmark11 scores so different where as the unigine are under one another? so i guess 650m is stronger... can drivers make thatmuch of a difference? maybe enduro is creating problems?

Notebook check rates the 7770 < 650mGT and 660. I don't know what to tell you. I would go for the better drivers and game performance regardless of synthetic benchmarks. I have the 650, I like it. There a loads of GPU's that are faster but it does fine for BF3, COD, MMO's, etc.

Nvidia inspector can unlock the Max over clock.
The temps were high for the CPU but the GPU ran within reasonable temps, the CPU ran hot at 100C the GPU temp was only 80C... pretty insane 1000 more points in 3dmark11 with only a GPU over clock and only 4C hotter.... I think apple has me sold now -
I use nVidia Inspector but it only allows for max 1085MHz. And it's a mystery how it allows that. Because it only says "+135MHz" which technically should be 970MHz (stock is 835MHz). AFAIK the M14x is the same way. What needs to be done to unlock max overclock? P8 state allows to unlock max and min clocks, but P0 state does not.

I am pretty sure he is using beta drivers from LaptopVideo2Go and Windows 8, there has been some talk that W8 gives you more OC.. I don't really know for sure though

Note his 105C readings on that processor... That's not just a warm keyboard.
The CPU is at danger zone.
The GPU could actually handle more if the cooling system weren't struggling with the rest of the laptop.
This may actually be a recipe for disaster for MBPr users. -
Ah, nevermind, I downloaded it and took a very quick look at it... It's not clocked too high, there should be some headroom. 3d voltage is 0.95v? Could be set to 1.0V it seems...
Anyway, the vbios is part of the BIOS, and your BIOS is RSA signed, so you might end with a semi-brick in case I modify it... you never know with those stupid HP BIOS, so I don't know whether you're interested. -
hmm if it does become "semi-bricked" what would happen to the laptop? and i do got accidental warratny... would that possible cover unofficial bios's ?

Usually you can still recover, in many cases you can even recover from a complete brick... but it's a bit a PITA if it happens.

a gt 650m is a good overclocker as it is like a basic card clocks for the new 28nm process. In simple terms a gt 650m oc with same performance as a 675m. Its like when core 2 duo came out.
In a way 670m and 675m being so slow meant 640m and 650m and 660m had to be very low powered cards. I doubt a gt 650m needs much cooling as it is a basic card for a 28nm manufacturing process. 650m takes similar power to a gt 540m. -
Yeah I just installed Inspector and noticed the P8 state too. Is there a way to lock the GPU into the P8 state and just OC from there?
Do you think you or someone can give me a link to where you found this information? I might just be willing to try it, myself. -
Lol, an incredibly OCd 650m GT with GDDR5 can barely keep up with GTX670m with slight OC, if anything at all. -

My HD5870m when heavily OC can reach stock GTX570m or a bit more performance too. And my card is even older.
I would be impressed by what you are trying to get, but when the GTX660, GT650 and GT640 are essentially the same card save clocks and memory bus width/type, its not really that impressive.
The GTX660 core is a powerful chip, so it is no suprise it can reach the big bro when overclocked, even if the bigger bro happens to be older tech.
Just as a GT555m, depending on model, could reach GTX560m performance, and a 560m ocd could reach stock 570m etc. -
yeah i get what ur saying lol but stupid constraints dont usually let a lower card reach that high up. but whats different here is mac users can OC it that high while others cant

I am pretty sure the gtx 680m and 7970m take less power consumption then the 670m lol. Anyway my point is gt 650m gddr5 is like a 35w card power consumption wise and the 670m takes more like 90-100w. So if you oc the 650m by 50% you should get more performance on the 650m at just half the power consumption. Not bad I say.

A reminder, the 570m has gotten to 4k 3dmark11... as nice as the 650m/660m is, it's only gotten to 3500.

Yes, the 650m takes less power... however, with optimus its not really that big of a deal. Simple struth is that 650m-equipped machines do not have higher battery life while gaming as most of them have weaker batteries.
Furthurmore, most 670m-equipped machines also have better cooling.
The 650m and 660m are very nice... they just aren't a 670m which is still in a completely different league. -

I just had to laugh there. 670m laptops overheat from what I read on another thread.
670m is not in a completely different league. 660m beats the 670m on some stuff. 570m oc to 3dmrak11 score of 4000 should take around 220w, 650m/660m oc to 3dmark11 score 3500 should take around 150w. if anything the 660m or 650m or are on another league to the 670m.
IN perspective actual power consumption on the 670m card alone takes around 50w more then the 660m. Heck according to notebookcheck the 7970m and 680m take less power consumption then the 670m. 670m's mainly throttle as there is not many power supply's big enough to supply it. Imagine how power hungry a 675m is. -
Good luck reaching our resident genius with this argument. He was stating in a different thread that the 660m performs the same or better than the 675m. Picking and choosing pieces of information to "support" his argument. Don't worry though, he knows he's right!

Theres no reason to get the 670m for gaming. So using your logic this being the gaming forum and not power conversation forum, you would get the best tech. Kepler has far more advanced features.
