    Hi all,
I have been trying to get Catalyst 10.3 to work on my HD 5850 on the MSI GX640. It delivers great in game performance, trouble is that the notebook can never wake up from hibernate or sleep successfully afterward. Either it loads to a black screen after the "Starting windows" screen, or it doesn't even get past BIOS. The manufacturer supplier 10.1 Catalyst is terrible in games like MW2. So, question: what can I do to fix the issue, or is there anywhere I can download the 10.2 Win 7 64-bit drivers? I have searched everywhere and couldn't find them.

    Thanks

Hm... are there any other ones that may work? I don't seem to see specifically a 10.2 Mobility Catalyst driver :S

Aye. The 10.5's work great for me. But the 10.3's also worked well, and hibernate/resume was fine.

@min2209: Have you tried removing the drivers using something like Drivercleaner and then reinstalling them? Are there any BIOS updates or anything from MSI? Are there any messages in your log files as to what causes the problem?

I don't know what BIOS you're running, but I think this should link you to all the drivers and such for the GX640. Looks like there's also a firmware update you should probably run (it updates the VGA firmware): http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1998

I see. I will look into that.
Ryan, the 10.3 worked well for you? That's just weird. I did a fresh reinstall of Win7 Professional 64-bit (my own), and it still gave similar issues whenever I installed 10.3. Hmm... I will try 10.5.
Anyone know where I might get 10.2 though?

10.2 was never made for Mobile, unless provided for by your vendor. Why are you looking for 10.2? 10.3 and beyond have massive updates on performance increases in numerous games and with better support for profiles.

10.2 does not work with the ATi mobility modder.

If you want 10.2 then you will have to edit the driver INF file and the CCC files yourself. Have fun with that.
    - Did read someone tried to mod 10.2. And in that thread, the only computer that installed it properly was for the OP and failed miserably 100% for anyone else that tried it.

I see. So I guess I have to try to get 10.3 to work? Hmm... the 10.1 drivers give me ridiculous amounts of stuttering in MW2 even with settings turned down. 10.3 fixes that, but makes it impossible to hibernate. Maybe I will try 10.5? That has a mobile version, right?

10.5 other than the 10.3 original preview drivers is the only that has hydrivision, avivo and everything also natively supporting Mobile.

    Or...

Just wait a few days, catalyst 10.4 should be released soon. Even 10.5 and the supposed 10.4 beta are using the older OpenGL drivers, so if you want the latest, just wait for 10.4 official.

Yes the 10.3 drivers worked fine on my system, but as far as computers go that means they could just as well not work on a single other system. ;)

There's really no harm in giving the 10.5 betas a shot. Like Pita and I have said we're getting great results with them.

Also, the go along with Pita I'd update any BIOS and firmware features that you haven't updated yet before changing drivers as they may fix your problem and should be done anyways!

Did you even look? strags has both CATALYST 10.2 and CATALYST 10.5 beta for mobility cards. >_>

I know it's off topic but there's one thing that's been bothering me about deciding weather to consider buying a laptop with an Ati card instead of an Nvidia card, and it's about Digital Vibrance. Does Ati in any support it, or something similar? On my laptop's display turning up Digital Vibrance really brings out the colors in my images and I don't think I would want to game or watch a movie without it.

The top post on strags.com for the 10.5 is a combined version. Just get the RAR and unpack it, then update the graphics drivers and point them to that directory.

I believe there is an a slider in CCC under display properties referred to as "saturation" which is very similar to digital vibrance. Would be nice if someone else with an ATI card could confirm this as well though.

There's that, and then there's a video override setting that will allow you to do all kinds of stuff, adjust the color band and such. It's pretty well featured. There's a "Vivid" preset that sounds like what andros forever wants

Tried 10.5 from Strags. Same problem as with 10.3, won't wake up from sleep or hibernate. Sigh. Maybe try 10.2, otherwise... well, maybe I will try installing Win7 32 bit

Wouldn't recommend 32bit. That'll take you down to less than 3GB of RAM on your system, with 1GB of video memory.

You did do all the system updates?

All the drivers from the msi site, try them, not ati releases...

    They're normally MSI branded cards.

Try to restore to your previous driver (or previous stable configuration) using the Windows CD/DVD.

you have to update your bios before you can install the new drivers.
if you are using a 63 bit windows you will need this
    http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119375.0
because the bios updater is only 32 bit so you have to do it from dos.
