Hello everyone, I have been tirelessly looking for a solution to the problem I am having with my new HP laptop. Here are the brief specs:
-HP dv7t quad edition
-i7-2720QM
8GB RAM
1GB HD Radeon 6770M
1080p Full HD LED screen
I have installed the latest AMD drivers, and BIOS to switch to "fixed mode" - which lets me choose to run either the "High-Performance GPU" (6770M) or the "Low-Performance GPU." I have the 6770M permanently selected and I was expecting to be able to play WoW in higher settings. Not even close.
Framerates for the various graphics settings:
Low: 30-60
Fair: 22-28
Good: 16-20
High: 11-14
Ultra: 3-8
As you can see, I am experiencing HORRIBLE frame rates with my new computer which, in my opinion, should be scoring very playable frame rates even on the "Ultra" setting. Another oddity I have noticed is that between the "High-Performance GPU" and the "Low-Performance GPU" I experience very similar frame rates. This should not be the case since the 6770M card should DESTROY the petty Intel Mobil Graphics.

Well I just tried playing WoW running on the "Low-Performance GPU" and actually experienced better frame rates. What the hell?
I also have Mass Effect installed and have had no problems running that game. Just out of curiousity, I tried running that game with the "Low-Performance GPU" and it worked just as fine as well. -
One more thing: I went to "canyourunit.com" and according to that site, while under the Mobil Intel Graphics, I should not be able to play Mass Effect. But I can, let alone on the highest settings.

Why don't you run some benchmarks then compare them online to see if your card is indeed running as it should?
-
While running on the AMD HD Radeon 6770M I achieved the following benchmarks:
2D Graphics: 268.4
3D graphics: 188.7
I got better results with the Mobil Intel Graphics:
2D: 410.2
3D: 392.5 -
Well I think it's pretty obvious that HP gave me a faulty graphics card. Now I have to deal with sending it back in for a refund.

for starters
1) make sure your in high performance mode
2) make sure your uing your 6770m gpu and not the integrated one
3) make sure your plugged in to a power outlet
4) check device manager and make sure theirs no hardware conflicts
5) install the latest drivers
6) re install windows -
Now...based on your 1920 x 1080 resolution, you should see a score of somewhere between 340 - 375 range. My 6850M does 364 at 1080i...and you should come in somewhere just below or just above it...
Give heaven a try

Make sure your plugged in and actually using the 6770m and not the integrated graphics. My FPS suffered when it wasnt pluged in even with the 6770m
-
I raided every single 25 man raid in Burning Crusade using a crappy 7700M Nvidia with every greatest raid mod available at that time smooth at 25-30 FPS @ 1680*1050 res.
So I am very surprised you can't play WoW with a new GPU that is likely more than twice as powerful as what I used. -

Twice? Try 5 times as powerful at least.

I mean my Mobility X1600 had no problems running WoW in 1920x1200, but after Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm its not as easy to run anymore. -
No, its an issue pertaining to his card. I'm running a gt555m (which is debatable on equal performance with the 6770) and I have absolutely no problems on wow. 1920x1080 with everything at max including shadows and water at 40 fps (DX11). If i turn shadows down to medium, I jump to 90-110. First, check to make sure you are utilizing the 6770. Second, update your drivers. Third, go into the catalyst control center and look at the options there. Set everything to performance and see if anything changes. Also, you might want to look at the bios setting again. My laptop has switchable gfx where all I need to do is press one button to change over to my intel chip.
HD Radeon 6770M cannot handle WoW!?
