    Hi!
    One month ago i bought a TOSHIBA Satellite L650-1MT PSK1JE for 500 Euro :D . I really like to play BFBC2 on DirectX 11 on Medium Settings. But even with OC 550 Mhz Core and 1000 Mhz i cant play it fluently ca. 25 fps.
    My setting are:
    DirectX 11 (Shadows are much better ``indirect lightning´´)
    Details MEDIUM
    Texture MEDIUM
    Effects MEDIUM
    Shadows MEDIUM/LOW (no effect by changing)
    AA 2x
    AF 4x
    As far i know i can OC the Chip to ca. 700Mhz ( by 1.1 Volt Vcore). But i have only 0.9500 Volt ( underclocked). I know that every Chip is unique but 650Mhz is still supported for the HD5650M.
    However theres no software wich can raise the Vcore. It is automaticly controlled from the BIOS/EFI. :(
    Is there anyone who knows how to mod the BIOS and/or raise the Voltage.
    I have tried to do it with AMD GPU Clock Tool but the Voltage hasnt been set ( checked with GPU-Z).

    Hope you cant help me :)

    Sry for my bad English i`m German :eek: .

    P.S. I know that the Frostbite 1.5 Engine is veeery BUGGY and needs many resources.
    i3 380M 2.53Ghz
    4 GB RAM
    Screen Resolution 1366x768

    O.O...on my 5650+i7 720qm i play battlefield bad2 in all high withous AA and a strange option that is heavy for a lappy(dont remember exactly)in ca. 35/40fps...

    for overclock you can try sapphire trixx that have voltage control...not ever this work,but if you are lucky you can mod it to your max bios support(i have this feature locked to 1.0v... other pleople can go with 1.05 or 1.10)

    Yeah i tried Sp TriXX but the Voltage Conrtol is locked. Overclocking works fine.
    The problem is that the hd5650m has no own BIOS and mine has a locked internal Vcore control. The next problem is that it uses InsydeH20 bios!?!?!
    And modding will only work with a hexeditor o_o.
    Just will ask my friend tomorrow if he has some dead lappies with i7qm and perhaps i get one of those cpu´s.

    sadly your cpu will not cut it to play the game with the settings you want... if you were to run it in dx10 mode with no aa it should play fine

    DX11 cuts a lot of FPS without ANY visible difference.

    First, disable AA. Second, put shadows and effects in low, and rest in High. Put HBAO and VSYNC off too.

    Make sure you play in DX10 though.

    Also, BC2 loves quad cores. Your CPU is pretty weak, and it is a dual core. If you had a quad, the performance would be MUCH higher.

    That i3 is plenty to play BFBC2 with. Try forcing DirectX 9 for a substantial increase in performance.

    Where can I download your system BIOS?

    Hi!
    Just set it to dx9 (forced ) and it runs veery smooth. But after 10 Minutes in a map the laptop freezes ( stable OC 550/1000 tested with ATITool).
    Im using CCC 11-5 mobility. Even without OC it freezes o_o.

    BC2's MP is known to not work with any software-based OC tools. The reason because Punkbuster seems to treat the OC as an illegal hack and when it tries to kick you, it inadvertently hard locks the computer instead since it conflicts with the OC tool as it kicks. Therefore, the only solution to play BC 2 MP overclocked is to do a vBIOS flash with the clocks permanently added.

    This is a well-known issue by the way.

    Huh weird cause mine hard-locks as well when I have TriXX, GPU-Z or even Afterburner on. The locks stop if I vBIOS flashed the OC.

    ???? Never heard that PB says that GPU oc is a hack...
    But even if i cant do it like u did. My BIOS/EFI is locked.. and i cant mod it.
    f***ing InsydeH20 BIOS. Since low and medium end grafic cards often do not have an own bios on a laptop.

    not is necessary disable dx11...the only HEAVY option is HBAO...when i tryed it much time ago it make me lose 10fps(35/50 to 25/30)...

    we are not lucky with sapphire trixx...it seems to be a Insyde bios problem...in my nb there is this Insyde(f27 update)...who have acer and toshiba with other bios is pretty luck...

    Oh! So that's why I have kernel-power ID 41 crashes ( freezes )! It wasn't the OC! :D

    Great to hear it, 60/60 is a good OC :), gonna try 65/70 though, 715/870 are much nicer numbers :p

    So my new settings are:

    [WindowSettings]
    Width=1366
    Height=768
    Fullscreen=true
    RefreshRate=60
    VSync=false
    [Sound]
    Quality=medium
    VoipEnable=true
    SpeakerCount=0
    [Graphics]
    Effects=medium
    Soldiers=high
    Vehicles=high
    Overgrowth=high
    Undergrowth=high
    StaticObjects=high
    Terrain=high
    Shadows=high
    Bloom=true
    HSAO=false
    MSAA=0
    Water=medium
    MainQuality=custom
    Texture=high
    DxVersion=9
    Aniso=2
    Detail=high
    RenderAheadLimit=0
    Fov=55

    It works nice with 550/1000 Clocks on my laptop. But the freezes are happening when i OC and even if i do not OC 450/800. And sometimes the game laaags very very strongly.
    Usually i play with 35-40 FPS now. Sometimes ( all set to low) i play with 20 FPS. Hmmm. I checked my CPU i3 380M is running 2.53 Ghz and is at 80% Load in average ( 2 real + 2 virtual cores). Another problem is micro stuttering
    wich appears every 5 seconds. The game still doesnt feel fluent.
    To DirectX:

    DirectX11:
    +indirect shadowing= very nice shadows even in low setting
    +is looking best
    -needs much performance
    -needs much VRAM

    DirectX10:
    +better VRAM management
    -not noticible VRAM management
    -no pro´s for using it would prefer DX9

    DirectX9:
    +fastest DX
    +doesnt need much performance
    -has errors in representation ( however)

    Or do u think its not like this? Would it be better to use dx11

    The crashing and freezing, while OC'ing, might be due to PB conflict with the OC program, as Star Forge mentioned ;)

    Noooo... I have a 5730! :p

    I handle BC2 pretty nicely : 1080p, All high settings except effects and shadows on low, and DX10. Will try on DX11 later.

    BUT! I have a i7 720QM, which helps A LOT in BC2.

    However i think i buy a intel i7 2720QM but i do not know if the HM55 chipset does accept Sandy Bridge CPU´s. And there is no Quad Arrandale.
    Then i buy a SSD 64GB this week. Like this one
    Kingston SSDNow V100 2,5" SSD 64 GB for 89 Euro.
    The i7 2720QM costs 334 €.

    The 2720QM won't work with your laptop because the chipset is different : HM6x versus your chipset of HM5x, therefore, the CPU won't work.

    Then i will have to take the i7-640M. Its an Arrandale CPU but its not quadcore. And i do not think the performance will get better with that CPU.
    The next problem is that that is the only CPU wich is supportet by HM55 and i can buy in Germany from Alternate.

    And yes, the i7 640M will be MUCH better than the i3. I believe.

    Thx. for advice :)! And after updating PB to latest Version for bfbc2 the game runs very smooth with dx11 on medium settings without micro stuttering!
    All medium AA2 and AF2 HBAO and Vsync off.
    Core 550 and Memory 1000. Without OC 450/800 i play on all medium rest off.
    P.S. Youre right the game freezes only if i play software OC´ed.
