AMD Radeon HD 7800 Specifications Revealed by VR-Zone.com
What do you think this means for the 7900 mobile series.
At I guess I would say:
7970M (or 7990M) = 1280 shaders 775Mhz core, 1Ghz mem, 100W TDP
7950M (or 7970M) = 1024 shaders 700Mhz core, 1Ghz mem, 80W TDP
Or possibly (depending on how yields are)
7970M = 1280 shaders 775Mhz core, 1Ghz mem, 100W TDP (Desktop 7870)
7870M = 640 shaders 825Mhz core, 1Ghz mem 75W TDP (Desktop 7770)

Nice. Thanks a lot. Imagine 1280 shaders.Man with these specs out the 7970M must be close
-
Interesting. I wonder how comparable this card's architecture is to the desktop 6870. Right now the 6990M is at 1120 shaders adn 715mhz. I would think, though, that if anything at 100 watts the clock speed could be higher than the current gen 40nm at 100 watts so that alone would make a difference.

Hmz.
6870 = 900mhz 1120 151W
7990M = 715mhz 1120 100W
roughly 20% clock cut to get to 100W from 151W
I would maybe revise my clocks down to maybe 725Mhz.
We are moving from 1.7 billion transistors to 2.8 billion. -
Benchmarks and AMD's graphics looks optimistic. In practice hope so, that...

HD 7870 ~ GTX 570

The 7850 looks promising for a GUS II Thunderbolt as it only requires 130w. I may do that if NVIDIA has no better card in terms of performance/wattage..

Look all the way at the bottom, it lists some specs for the 7970M, 7950M, 7750M, and 7730M, although I'm not sure how accurate this is. -

Are they going back to the HD5xxx series naming? From the looks of it I doubt it, seems like it will follow the 6xxx series in terms of naming with the 79xx being their high end cards and the 78xx being midrange.

Reviews are out already (techpowerup, guru3d, hardocp, etc.)
Pricing kinda sucks, but 7870 is almost GTX 580 performance and the 7850 is between the GTX 560ti and GTX 570. It's also worth noting that the 7870 consumes 100w less than a GTX 580 with about 90-95% of its performance. -
Here's a review from one of the few tech sites that i trust..

We could be looking at near GTX580 desktop performance in notebooks
-
If Southern Islands is next high-end mobile GPU, I'm in. Better than GTX 580 performance, good thermals, lower than 6870 power usage and great OC headroom. This plus an IB cpu will devastate.
Heck, I'm even thinking of going with dual 7870s on my desktop rig -- the first time I haven't gone extreme high end since my nVidia geforce 4400ti. Unless you're using triple 30" monitors, there's no point going higher with todays consolized games. -

The desktop 7870 trades places with the 580, so I think the mobile card will be 20% behind that. You will maybe get close with OCing, but that remains to be seen.
-
Almost GTX 580 (desktop) performance. Sick

Though I'm sure AMD will still downclock the mobile counterparts to around that figure (10-20%) for the sake of TDP and thermal efficiency. -

5870M = 700
6870 = 900
6990m = 715
