So I blew up my video card in my asus g50vt which has a 9800m gs... so after reading on what I can put in it I orderd a gtx 260m but when I installed in I get no screen just blackness but I can hear the boom in the backround. At that point it just loops trying to boot. So I pulled the card and booted without one and I get a gray screen. Did I get a bad card or is it not compatible ?? I need help on this asap The card came out of a asus g60vx.

    welcome to nbr
im no expert when it comes to changing graphics cards but the most important thing is to find out first is if your lappy will actually take a 260.
my 9800GT died on my clevo m860tu a couple of years ago and it was changed under warranty for a 260GTX which took the reseller about 10 minutes to fit but my laptop was compatible with the upgrade.
looking at your spec > ASUS - G50Vt it only shows the one graphics option. my spec showed a few options.
i know nothing about bios but ive read on here it might need a bios flash for the computer to work. i will have to leave this one upto the experts as i have no idea about flashing.
also what thermal paste did you use on the new 260?

in the mean time if youve still got you 9800 have you thought about the baking method in the oven to resurrect the card.

take a look here > The Oven Trick (repairing your broken video card with an oven) | Overclockers

All things reported a gtx 260 out of the g60 series is supposted to work. My g50vt comes stock with the 9800. Ive noticed a few not so cool things about this card like its the wrong PT number from the one i actually orderd and it appears to be missing a 6 prong mx chip on the top right front of the card... i think its a wrong and bad card.... The guy is gonna take it back and give me refund - 30% and im gonna try another one who appears to have the right card cross my fingers i actually get what i orderd. I used something called formula 7 from best buy but my computer shop friend says its ok for what i need done.
